Hello everyone!

Certainly, there are some experienced users in this forum who have disassembled and cleaned their quantity control units to eliminate the jerky movement problem (see also the technical article).
Within the context of this survey, I am interested in knowing how effective and successful this action has been.

I am particularly interested in any information regarding problems and potential issues encountered during this process. Additionally, it would be helpful to have more information about the vehicle's mileage at which the jolting problems began.

Thank you very much for your support.

Regards,
Alex.

Evening.
Cleaning the MSW (presumably a piece of equipment) really helped me! At first, I was hesitant and didn't dare to do it, but with the excellent instructions in the articles, I had absolutely no problems.

The only thing that annoyed me was having to resolder the pins. I was using a 15-watt soldering iron for circuit boards, which was a bit too weak. I then used a 100-watt iron, and it worked.

The instructions are perfectly adequate. I performed the cleaning, but without any change. I even installed a different MSW (Main System Board) from a relatively new ESP, but still without any result.

The jerking is still present. I'm quite sure the problem isn't in the MSW (Engine Control Unit), but in the high-pressure pump, specifically the distributor piston! I've now driven 294,000 km. However, I've experienced this jerking since I bought the car at 234,000 km.

Super geile Anleitung!! 'Thank you!!'
I've now disassembled my MSW for the second time, and it's already full of debris again after about 60,000 km?!
But it works wonderfully. I just wonder where all this... stuff is coming from... Eventually, my pump will probably fall apart into a thousand pieces.

Okay, I'm just removing the top cover of the MSW and cleaning it directly while it's still installed.

Thank you very much.

Best regards, Basti.

'Over the past 2-3 years, I have worked on more than 15 VP37 pumps connected to 1Z engines.'
I cleaned the MSW using the 8-bit motor controller.
Every time with maximum success. Not even with subsequent chip tuning can noticeable jerking be observed. icon_wink.gif

After my diagnosis, the metal shavings are damaging the efficiency of the actuator motor.
When dealing with a large amount of chips, a current that is more than 20% higher is required to achieve the same cleaning result compared to cleaning without chips.

And the 8-bit ECU can't properly control it. The 16-bit ECU does a better job because it has 12-bit resolution for the pump.

Unfortunately, I can't say how long it will last before problems arise again. So far, none of my customers have contacted me again, so I assume it's still working smoothly.

Sure, here's the translation:

'Best regards,' or 'Sincerely,'.

After cleaning several pumps, I have to say that it didn't work each time, or it only worked for a short period.
Upon further disassembly, nothing more was found.

By the way, this is a very nice tutorial!

(I could have used that a few years ago!)

Best, Tom.

Excellent instructions.
Today I cleaned the mass airflow sensor (MAF) in my 1994 car, while it was still installed. However, it's easy to access all parts of it.
I didn't solder the pins; instead, I reconnected them using 0.75mm ferrule connectors.
I wouldn't do it without a diagnosis; it's about measurements down to tenths of a millimeter.
'I've been experiencing this jerking for about 10,000 kilometers, and now the car has a total of 194,000 kilometers. What can I say - the car now drives like new, no more jerking, twitching, or wobbling.'
icon_biggrin.gif icon_smile.gif icon_cool.gif icon_lol.gif
'However, as someone who isn't a mechanic, I had been preparing for the repair for quite some time. I bought an OBD scanner, disassembled a practice MSW (presumably a mock-up or training unit), and prepared the necessary tools. Let's see how long it lasts.'

I cleaned the quantity control device on two 1Z engines.

In one case, the stuttering was completely eliminated, while in the other, it improved significantly, although it wasn't completely gone.

The MSW (Mass Air Flow sensor) of my ESP was cleaned in September 2004 at a mileage of 360,000 km, and it ran smoothly afterwards. icon_biggrin.gif Now, after approximately 60,000 km, the jerking has returned. icon_sad.gif This time, the cleaning was not successful because, in addition to debris in the MSW, the ring into which the camshaft of the mass airflow sensor engages was also difficult to turn on its shaft. }
After having driven 426,000 kilometers, the ESP seems to be finally worn out.
That's why I decided to go with a new ESP.

Hello everyone.

Thank you for the MSW cleaning instructions.

I cleaned the MSW (presumably a type of cleaning agent) from my B4,1Z, manufactured in 1994, with 276,000 km on the odometer, following the instructions, but it's still rough and noisy.
It's gone. The car drives like new.

However, I performed the cleaning without using VAG-COM and without using the MFA (Multifunction Display).
I marked the correct position for the control lever (the movable black lever) on all sides using a carpet knife and took some pictures. The assembly went perfectly right away.

Acceleration from 80-120 km/h: 11.0 seconds. Previously: 13.2-13.5 seconds.
With tuning, the values are 9.8-10.0 seconds. These values have been regularly measured since 1999.

Greet Willi.

Yesterday, I cleaned the fuel quantity sensor on a 1994 Volkswagen Golf III with a 1.9L engine and 352,000 km on the odometer. The car now accelerates smoothly again without any jerking.

At 154,000 km, I cleaned the 1Z MSW (throttle body). The vehicle runs on rapeseed oil. It was experiencing severe misfires and the idle was very rough, but after the cleaning, everything runs like new again.

Hello...

I didn't have to clean my MSW (municipal solid waste), but I did have to replace the seals... does that count as the same thing? *g*
icon_biggrin.gif

However, I don't quite understand the function...
It didn't matter to me whether I moved the MSW towards the timing belt or away from it; nothing changed. ??? I still need to figure that out!

Best regards,
Michael.

Hi,

I initially bought a used fuel pump and only replaced the flow meter. I adjusted it using the VAG-COM software according to the instructions, and the misfire is gone.
I couldn't detect any difference in the ease of use between the different MSW models. If I have time this summer, I will disassemble the older MSW and check to see if there are any shavings inside.
The car has 310,000 kilometers (approximately 193,000 miles) and was manufactured in 1994.

The instructions are great!

Adrian.

Hello,

Our now-sold Passat 35i, 1Z, started to exhibit slight jerking at approximately 180,000 km. At 210,000 km, the idle became unbearable. The instructions are excellent, and the procedure was straightforward. The jerking was completely gone after cleaning.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the "right" soldering iron on hand; it lacked a bit of power, and one of the electrical connections was done poorly. My girlfriend was stranded on the side of the road with her car on a beautiful Sunday. However, with a proper soldering iron, the problem could have been permanently fixed in just a few minutes.

Thank you for the instructions!

Best regards,
Sebastian.
