Hi everyone,
If you want to completely fill up your car's tank (VW G4, etc.), I can recommend the following trick:
Inside the fuel filler neck, there's a small plastic nipple on the left side (approximately 5x5mm). When you push this nipple backwards, the fuel vent is obviously released (this also happens when you screw the cap on).
If you fill up the tank until the pump automatically stops, you can then use the nozzle to push the plastic nipple backwards and continue filling the tank until it is completely full. I have been able to add almost 10 liters more to the tank this way.
It's clear that you should only do this if you plan to drive a significant distance afterward, as this prevents the tank from overflowing due to the fuel warming up and expanding.
Bei mir hat sich die Tanknadel normalerweise schon nach 70km nach unten bewegt. Nach diesem echten Volltanken erst nach ca 240km. icon_eek.gif
A trick that might be useful for longer vacation trips...

Greetings.

Eike.

Hello.
I've heard that before. I wonder if it applies to mine as well?

I have this white plastic thing on the right side. But is it on your left side?

Best, Alex.

Here's a small addition: If you press that part of the nozzle backwards while fueling, it goes even faster and you avoid having to give the middle finger ;o)

You should insert the nipple with the tap handle - and not with your fingers - lol lol lol.

*grin*

Yes, reading my statement now, it does have a certain ambiguity.
But you know which nipple I'm talking about *gg*.

And just like in Formula 1, you can quickly refuel at the truck fuel pump. Except for the Ford, I've managed to fit the large nozzle into every one of my diesel vehicles so far... And at some gas stations, the fuel is even half a cent cheaper.

Has anyone complained about that yet? Because that gas pump also intrigues me every time I fill up. But then I get scared that the gas station attendant will jump out and say I have to buy at least 4,000 liters to be allowed to use it.

You should first find out if it's actually truck diesel fuel.

If yes, then stay away.

Truck diesel fuel has a different additive formulation than passenger car diesel fuel. The fuel systems in trucks are nowhere near as sophisticated as those in passenger cars.

I always do that at 'my' DEA gas station. One day, the gas station attendant gave me a friendly reminder that there are also gas pumps for passenger cars (because he thought I wouldn't be able to fit in icon_lol.gif ). We chatted a bit, and he mentioned that the fuel for passenger cars and trucks comes from the same tank.... The half-cent difference is a quantity discount (and I always fill up for 30 euros icon_twisted.gif ).

I don't believe there's a qualitative difference either. After all, the trucks are also powered by common rail and similar technologies.
The Aralseite website is not bad, but it is written in a very self-serving way.

Hi everyone,

Let's get back to the main topic of the thread, which is the auxiliary tank for venting.

"I tried this out on the highway yesterday (normally, after refueling, I don't drive far enough to want the vent tank to be completely full of diesel), and I filled the 45-liter tank in my Ibiza with 45.2 liters. The yellow warning light came on about 100 meters before the gas station, so there must have been about 6 or 7 liters left. This suggests that the vent tank has a capacity of roughly 6 or 7 liters, although I didn't fill it to the absolute maximum (I didn't want to cause a diesel overflow at 1 a.m.)."

My question: Does anyone have information on the actual size of the ventilation tank in different cars? Or is it always the same size (at least approximately)? Knowing this would make it easier to achieve the maximum possible performance.

Best regards,

Jan.

In my car (A3), after pressing the fuel flap, approximately 10-12 liters still enter the tank. The maximum amount of fuel I've managed to put in my 55-liter tank is 66.3 liters!!!

Hi Jan,

In my wife's Ibiza, after filling the tank completely ("to the brim"), approximately 9 more liters can be added when the vent is pressed.

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know the coefficient of thermal expansion for diesel fuel? If you fill the tank with fuel at around 8-10°C and it warms up to 25-30°C in the summer inside the tank, it will take up more space, but how much more?
Regards,

Eike.
