Today I scanned a Golf, and the following information appeared: The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is apparently not working, as the warning light is illuminated.

What I'm interested in: the communication error from the brake control module (STG) - could this be related to the defective G200 sensor from the ESP system? Apparently, the G200 has internal solder joint failures, so I'll have to painstakingly remove it, solder the connections, and secure it, as I've done many times before with Golf IVs.

Furthermore, it's interesting to know: can the deactivated airbag be easily reactivated via VCDS through the channels? Since the airbag light is blinking, which correctly indicates a deactivated passenger airbag, I don't think a resistor plug is installed. The car does not have a key switch.

Greetings.

Hi,
The G200 actually only has 3 connection cables to the STG (System Transfer Gateway).
The G85, on the other hand, is connected to the CAN bus, but based on your statement, I suspect that the version with separate G200 and G85 units is still installed.

The communication problem could also be caused by a faulty ground strap located at the front, underneath the battery holder.
This tends to corrode on the Golf 4, so it might need to be replaced.

The statements are subject to change, as I am not 100% certain.
Best regards,

Hello,

Yes, that's correct. He separated both sensors, and the smaller box is the G200. And on passatplus.de, you can find instructions on how to resolder it - I will definitely try that.

I'm familiar with the mass band problem - I just hadn't thought of it. That sounds good, I'll look into it.

Greetings.
Georg.

Hello,

Oh, I completely forgot, the G200 is working perfectly again after the reflow process. The other errors haven't reappeared, so I haven't taken any action for now.

Okay, so the connector pins on the G200 circuit board (mounted on the steering column) were resoldered after removing the potting compound. icon_smile.gif

Thank you for the feedback!

However, some caution is needed when disassembling the G200.
The component soldered onto the circuit board tends to get stuck in the potting compound, so it is essential to pay close attention to the position of the circuit board when reassembling.
