Hello,

Today, my Golf IV MBK AXR with 200,000 km mileage had some problems. First, it stalled a few times and then started again after some struggling. Later, it wouldn't start at all.

The starter motor runs smoothly.

"Suspected issue: fuel pre-lift pump in the fuel tank. I had noticed this several times during the winter due to a slightly louder pump noise."

Okay, so we fold down the bench, lift the carpet, and remove the cover. When starting, 12V is applied to the two outer pins. Unfortunately, the pump is neither felt nor heard.
"Oh my god, what a mess! My wife was just filling up the car..."
For those who want to try this: the two tubes aren't simply pulled off; you need to press a small "slider" directly at the connection. Then they will come off very easily.
The fuel pump assembly seems to be a common problem, even in the bay area.

Okay, here's the translation:

Now, to my question: Is there anything specific I need to be aware of during the installation? Do I need to bleed the system, or will the pump simply fill with liquid when it's inserted into the tank? I think the pump shouldn't run dry.

Best regards and thank you very much.

The fuel pump assembly is even available in the bay, which suggests that it sometimes has problems.

Now, to my question: is there anything special I need to be aware of during the installation?

It fills itself automatically. By the time you've put everything back together, there will be enough fuel in it to prevent it from running dry. Also, it prevents contaminants from entering the system, and it monitors the fuel level sensor.

Buy the Pierburg pump or an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) pump.
I would avoid using a Chinagram.

Hello Auto Service,

Thank you for the quick response!
Pierburg parts are available in the catalog. I won't be ordering anything from China; I don't have enough time for that kind of work.
I'm going to try contacting my local dealer one more time.

Regards,
