Unfortunately, that's true, but I was lucky; I have a "new" Audi A4 from the year 2002.
"It also has an Ardic system installed, which was added later, so it's not readable via VCDS (if that was even intended)."
The part also wasn't working, and no one could diagnose the problem. I called EberspĂ€cher, and they said you can "free of charge" borrow the original Ardic tester from EberspĂ€cher in Torgelow for 10 working days. (A deposit of +1200⏠is required, with âŹ0 for shipping via cash on delivery + âŹ6.50 for return shipping).
I had previously opened the heating system completely and checked all the components, and everything seemed to be in good order.
After clearing the error codes, it runs perfectly, and according to the diagnostic device, it has only been running for 56 hours since it was installed in 2002, up to 2012. I find the quality of the heater to be very good (everything is stainless steel, and it's simply designed), except for the problem with the control unit.
Too bad, because then it would have been a heating system that would last forever.
It is also possible to send in the control unit, but I don't know how much that will cost.
Before giving up or starting over, try to diagnose the problem.
For those who are interested, I have attached some documents.
