Hello!
Today I saw a strange engine failure; it was the 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine from a T3.
The engine apparently seized up on the highway and stopped running.
Okay, head removed:
My photo is unfortunately blurry/unclear, but I've never seen anything like it.
The cylinder head bolts were all relatively loose, and some of the bolts had what looked like sintered metal dust on them, which was a bad sign, indicating that the cylinders were full of water.
And then, it appears that the flame escaped through the gaps next to the swirl chambers in the two inner cylinders, and ejected a significant amount of material from the cylinder head towards the center of the cylinders.
Sometimes, to the extent that the valve seats are exposed.
Of course, these are all clever people,
Approximately one year ago, the cylinder head was replaced, and during that process, the cable to the glow plugs was apparently torn off. Since then, the engine has been started using starting fluid.
Kennt jemand so einen Schaden? Or the cause?
I've seen a lot, but I've never seen anything like this before...
I can take a photo if you would like, and possibly add it later.
