Hello everyone,
Here is the problem reported by a colleague that I would like to help with using VCDS:
It's a Golf IV, PD TDI with 370,000 km.
After the engine starts, everything initially seems to be in order.
After approximately 3 minutes, the engine starts to run very unevenly.
After a few more minutes, the problem is resolved and the engine is running normally again.
In the attachment, I have included 2 logs of the idle-free operation control. The first log shows the noticeable instability, while the second log was created a few minutes later, after the engine had started running smoothly again.
Interestingly, the consistently high log reading for cylinder 1, showing 2.99 mg/stroke, is noteworthy.
However, in the inconspicuous log, cylinder 4 stands out. However, not so extreme.

The Friendly person wants to sell a new injector to his colleague. Does such intermittent behavior actually indicate a faulty injector, or should the problem be looked for in the electrical system instead?
Thank you,
Martin (and Marc)

Hello,
at Quote: | 18074 - Valve for Pump/Nozzle Cylinder 1 (N240)
P1666 - 35-00 - electrical fault in the circuit |
should be considered first. Of course, at this kilometer reading, there could also be damage to the PD element itself, but this can still be checked later.
Best regards, Rainer

I would also start with the more affordable option first. I would definitely not want to remove the PDE.
But, as has already been mentioned, at 370,000 km, it could also be due to the PDE.
P.S. Wenn man die IdleRuhe-Regelung aufzeichnet, macht es wenig Sinn, mit dem FuĂ auf dem Gaspedal zu arbeiten.

Also, my advice is to replace the PD cable harness for around 50âŹ. This is the most sensible thing to do first... Also, get some engine head cover gasket right away, at 370,000 km, the engine head cover will definitely leak somewhere on the left and right, or it won't seal properly after opening.
Installation is not a magic trick.
