The Caddy won't start. Mileage: 61,000 km. Both keys have been tried. The car scan shows no errors. The engine is turning over quickly, and the fuel pump is running. My mechanic will check the fuse configuration tonight; I can't do it myself. Is there a relay for the MSG (Motor Steuergerät) here? There's one in the fuse box on the engine side, labeled with the number 100.

Hi Red!
If the MStG (presumably a control module) is accessible via VCDS (a diagnostic software), then the relay (if it's controlled by the MStG) is likely not the problem.
Please create a 10-second log entry for 13/18/23 during the starting process.
Is it completely empty?
Best regards from Munich!

He's sputtering again.
Yes, that's correct, Dbär. We also realized right away that the MSG needs to be running.
Damn, we didn't think about the logs.
My mechanic said that he can read fuel injection values in the diagnostic data block while the engine is starting. The temperature readings were also consistent with the ambient temperature.
We poured the diesel fuel into a beaker; it's very yellow and smells strange. We've been getting mostly low-quality fuel for the past few months, in my opinion.
Then disconnect the intake hose (the electronic throttle valve is open) and briefly spray some starter fluid into the intake, after which it continued to run smoothly, as it usually does.
A few more times on and off, and it works.
Finally, we exposed the MSG and cleaned the mass points associated with it.
We believe that the initial amount may be missing again. Given how warm it was today, that might have been factored in too heavily, and I can't really make sense of it any other way.

Hi Red!
Is it the fuel then?
Starting material issues and attempts to compensate for them were actually only a significant problem during the VP37 era, and even then, there was often excessive and inaccurate diagnosis of the actual (mechanical) causes of the problems.
You can tell by the 13/18/23 log that new DiFi has been installed.

The DiFi is not that old yet (Nov'12), but I'm going to encourage my star mechanic to do a simple visual inspection.
No, no, as far as I know, the production dates (PD) were also affected by the initial production quantities, according to our former BKC Golf 5.
The log, under what conditions? Trip? Idle?

Basically, it's always running in idle mode because the load-dependent speed control (LLRC) is deactivated at just below 1,400 RPM, and the values become fixed.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever looked at the starter speed?
The problem, as it often is with PDs (presumably referring to a specific type of device or engine), usually occurs when the engine is warm.
So, either a new starter or a tuner to increase the starting amount.
