Hi.
While searching for information about action 26H7, I noticed that...
that the intake manifolds of the 177 hp TDIs (e.g., A6 2.0 TDI CGLC) apparently no longer have swirl flaps.
Is that correct?
Does anyone know the background story behind why these features were switchable, then adjustable, and then ultimately discontinued in the BMR (presumably referring to a specific system or technology)?

Hi,
The CFHx also doesn't have it anymore. It was probably too expensive or prone to defects... and apparently, it works fine without it.
Best regards,
Jan.

Hi,
Most likely, the software will complain if it's monitoring that.
The CAYx system has similar flaps, but they were not controlled (at least initially). I have no idea whether they added that functionality later.
Best regards,
Jan.

Well, you shouldn't disconnect the solenoid valve, but rather the vacuum hose.

To the best of my knowledge, they are still dead.

The first test was pointless because the bike was in the regeneration phase and therefore felt quite unstable.
But that's one way to do it quickly.

Hi,
What are you actually trying to achieve with this?
Without software adjustments, this is likely to have more negative consequences.
Best regards,
Jan.

Which one?
And why?
What was achieved by changing the injection start timing on the 1Z engine?
Negative: Emission values - As if I care.
Positive aspects: Consumption and airflow.
Absolutely positive for me as a driver.
If the throttle valves worked the same way, I would drive without them.
Or, if I operate it alone, and the wave doesn't erode the suction port due to the lack of activation, I've already won another 400 euros.
And besides, it's about playing around with it.

Hi,
The idea behind these things is that the air-fuel mixture is improved at low speeds through the creation of swirl. That's at least what they claim.
I have no idea what happens if you turn this off without the control system knowing about it... if the effect is really as described, then at least some kind of change must occur. Whether that change is disruptive is, of course, another question.
I completely understand the other arguments, especially those regarding durability and playfulness, and I'm curious to see if you can observe any effects.
Best regards,
Jan.

The purpose of the swirl control is simply to achieve a slightly cleaner combustion process in the partial load range. The cross-sectional reduction in the swirl control causes the intake air to flow more forcefully and quickly into the combustion chamber, where it mixes better with the fuel.
In a test vehicle (Citroen Jumpy 2006 2.0hdi 16V, without DPF, yellow environmental sticker), we were unable to detect any difference in performance or the emitted, barely visible exhaust gases, whether operating in 8V or 16V mode.
The pop-off valve doesn't really care about any of that. But it might be a problem for the DPF. I don't think it's a good idea to disable the system on this particular vehicle.

I have simply removed these dirty things from many 6-cylinder BMWs, Mercedes, and Fiats because they kill the engine by breaking or loosening the flaps, which are then sucked into the engine! There are no problems with or without the DPF, and neither does the MSTG complain, nor does the driver notice anything. It is important to leave the solenoid valve electrically connected, otherwise the MSTG will complain.
Or, without these annoying things, you can't see anything from the outside, and they can be navigated normally.

I've heard that BMWs are prone to breaking down.
Has this happened to anyone else with the 2.0 models (e.g., CAGA)? Should I also expand those?
I've already deactivated the swirl flaps via the software on the V6 engines, and I couldn't detect any difference.

The current V6 engines have a central swirl valve and then a two-branch intake manifold.
In the 16V PPD systems, the adjustment shafts tend to leak.
I haven't read anything about problems related to the CR.

Hi,
"But the newer CR models don't have them either... maybe too many of them broke down within the warranty period."
Then just get rid of that stuff .

Jan.
Do you really think that customer complaints and emission standards are in the same league?
There's nothing quite like adhering to completely arbitrary pollution limits.
I even bet that in energy management systems, lambda sensor heaters are deactivated only after airbags and ESP are deactivated, because they are considered "more important"!
If swirl flaps can somehow affect the emissions, it doesn't matter whether they occasionally end up in the combustion chamber, because then the engine needs to be built to last more than the lifespan of a car - and the customer will pay for that, because it's designed to last a nice } 1462 (*) days.

Hi,
If that were the case, they would have kept them. Apparently, it works fine without them, so they're getting rid of them.
Reading this, I'm really glad I don't have that problem. And it's probably not so bad that the CFHF doesn't have a compensation wave module. It does drone a bit more between 1300 and 1400 Hz, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
Best regards,
Jan.
