Hello everyone,

I once connected my VCDS to a Q3 (177PS TDI) and noticed that its accelerator pedal position is capped at a maximum of 84% (KickDown at 87%). Is this normal? With my older Audi 80 TDI, VCDS shows 100% when the pedal is fully pressed.

Can you please provide some more information?
A car scan would be the preferred method.

Is it a switch, and does it have a kickdown function for the efficiency program?

Hello Martin,

A complete scan of all control units?

By "KickDown," I mean the resistance you feel when pressing the accelerator pedal, especially in the very last millimeter of travel, almost like "pedal to the metal." The car has S-Tronic with DriveSelect, so it's possible that the selected "Efficiency" program might limit the pedal position (though I'd be surprised).

Unfortunately, I'm not currently near the vehicle, so I can't provide all the information or repeat the test. However, if someone could tell me that this is normal under certain circumstances and that 100% charge is only displayed when certain conditions allow the electronics to do so (e.g., engine temperature), I would feel reassured.

Up until now, with values like these, there has always been a doormat under the pedal... icon_wink.gif

Did this happen before (I think it was the first 85kW PD TDI), or was it...?
The target value for the pedal position was set to a maximum of 87%.
That means the maximum fuel capacity has already been reached at 87%.
Why ... icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

That's not possible with the Q3 (I think), because the pedal is mounted on the metal plate and doesn't have a space to block. Furthermore, with a mat, you wouldn't be able to reach the kick-down range (see http://goo.gl/UH1PA1).

From your statements, I'm getting the impression that this is probably not normal.

Edit: Okay, according to Wiesel, it's probably normal after all.

At the very least, it's not impossible.
To say for sure, one would need to examine the software.

At least the A6 has always had the kickdown pedal, even if it's a switch.
It's designed to quickly and easily bypass the efficiency setting when you need to unleash full power.

However, the "kickdown" function is very noticeable; the pedal clearly depresses over a certain resistance, just like the difference between a momentary press (for turn signals on the highway) and a firm press (for continuous turn signals) on a turn signal lever.

However, the 3% difference is a bit too small.

A doormat (or other debris) that might provide a 3% boost when stepped on should be clearly distinguishable from the kickdown switch.

A clean "kickdown" (the switch can also be recorded as its own measurement) is not possible if there is dirt or debris on the floor mat.

Possibly place the head and LED flashlight in the footwell.

Sure, here's the translation:

"Just a small addition:"

Last night, for safety's sake, I set DriveSelect to "dynamic" and repeated the test. The pedal position remains the same (maximum 87%), but I also found a value called "pedal travel" - in this case, the pedal reaches a full 100%.

I'm actually wondering what the difference is between accelerator pedal position and travel, but at least I'm somewhat relieved.

For your information... This weekend (for aesthetic reasons), I installed the accelerator pedal from an RSQ3. It behaves similarly: the accelerator pedal travel goes up to 100%, but the actual pedal position only reaches 89%.
