Hello.
Does anyone happen to have instructions or can offer some guidance on how to replace the driveshaft boot on the passenger side (wheel side) in the easiest way?
What's best to build there, and what shouldn't be built so that the track doesn't need to be re-aligned?
The engine is an AHU in a Volkswagen Golf III.
THANK YOU for the help. Golf III TDI AHU 402Tkm

Hmm, it's been ages since I last used the Go3.
With a little luck, you might be able to push it out without having to loosen anything on the other side.
If the outer joint cannot be completely detached from the wheel hub, loosen the support joint (tie rod) at the wheel bearing housing and lower it.
Before you jack up the vehicle, you should definitely "slightly" loosen the center nut or bolt. LG, Onkel BM

Are there any specific "tricks" here? Is the central bolt on the passenger side a left-hand or right-hand thread?
What are the best times to wear a suit here?

Hi!
Everything is right-hand threaded.
In older cars, the ball joints in the hub toothing sometimes get rusted. This can then (not) be fun.
Inside the gearbox, you will need a long, special spline adapter.
Someone should double-check the torque specifications; I estimate they are around 260-270 Nm. Grüße, Steffen!

Is it not sufficient to loosen the support joint as described above and then try to pull out the shaft? Or why is it necessary to detach the shaft on the transmission side?

Hi!
Apparently, it's supposed to work that way, but I have to admit, I've never actually tried it myself.
Personally, I have always completely disassembled the wave generators and taken them apart in a vise.
Sometimes, especially with older cars, it can be very difficult to remove the joints from the shaft.
If you don't have the right specialized tool, it's also beneficial to install the tensioning straps when you have plenty of room to work and good visibility.
You can certainly try it, but I'm not really inclined to mess around with that. Those six screws are definitely coming out easily. Grüße, Steffen!

Hello.

I suggest you get the appropriate "How it's done" manual for the repair; it costs about €20. It clearly describes everything specific to the vehicle type – when and how to loosen and tighten the central screw, torque specifications, how to remove the joint from the shaft, how to repair it, etc.
That saves days of asking questions.
The wave must be completely removed, and this can be done on almost all models without disassembling any axle components.

Hi Herbert,
Thank you for the information; I have the output from "So wird's gemacht," and I should probably take a look at it sometime.
However, I have found that not everything is optimally described in this book either, so I wanted to get tips from the forum because, in my opinion, it is one of the best ones I know.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"vg" translates to "very good" in English.

Hi there.
The driveshaft can stay in place, and a wheel alignment is not necessary.
Loosen the center nut.
Jack up the car.
Wheel off.
Remove the brake caliper, or at least unscrew the lower screw from the pad carrier to the wheel bearing housing.
Loosen the set screw (M10x50) from the ball joint.
Push the pivot joint out of the wheel bearing housing.
Steer fully to the left.
Now, the ball joint can be removed from its housing to replace the seal.
Disassembly.
I've done this countless times, and it always works. Sommer: A4 B5 Avant 2,5 TDI Quattro Facelift (AKN silber)
