Hello!
I replaced the thermostat in my CFGB (170HP CR) because it was no longer closing properly. Now, during normal highway driving, I'm getting oil temperatures of 100°C, and at a constant speed of 140 km/h, it's 109°C. This is all with an ambient temperature of approximately 23°C.
Are these normal values? They seem a bit high to me at first glance...

Hello!
The temperature readings might be a little high, but perhaps my observations represent the other extreme.
With a CJCD system, and 150 horses under the hood, driving at a moderate speed on a regular road, the oil temperature only reaches around 90°C (194°F) at an outside temperature of approximately 20°C (68°F), and it takes a while to get there (longer than I would like).
At 140 km/h, it might occasionally reach 100°C.
To reach an oil temperature of over 110°C, I have to drive the steep sections of the Tauern Autobahn at full throttle with a load of 1100 kg.

"So, with my GTD (CUNA), I'm getting similar temperatures, while with the Octi (CFHC), they are slightly lower."
For me, your information makes sense.

Hello,
The temperatures are slightly higher than those of the B8 mentioned in the signature, but definitely not worth worrying about!

Hello,

We have a 7N model with the CFGC engine (which, as I understand it, should be very similar to the CFGB, with those ridiculous extra 7 horsepower...). The Sharan is undoubtedly a bulky vehicle. Even when driving very gently (max. 130 km/h), I always notice that the oil temperature is higher than in any other VAG vehicle I've driven.

@matthias: You're right, the engines are quite similar and therefore certainly comparable. And at a constant speed, the weight shouldn't be a major factor, especially considering your "larger" vehicle. At most, it's the air resistance. What are the oil temperatures like?

And if my values are actually within the normal range, what kind of temperatures can modern oils withstand?

Okay, so I reach 95°C very quickly. At around 130 km/h, the temperature stabilizes between 105 and 110°C. Driving really fast results in temperatures between 125 and 130°C.

"Everything is very interesting because when you log the water and oil temperatures, the water temperature remains significantly lower than the oil temperature (which is a good thing). In contrast, in my current Audi, a parental Yeti (140 hp, engine code unknown) and a Golf VII (engine code CRLB, I believe), the oil temperatures rarely exceed 110°C. The Golf mentioned stays at around 90°C during slow driving on the highway at a maximum speed of 120 km/h, but can also drop to 85°C."

The Sharan is generally always warmer (according to the MFA and measured value). It also fluctuates much more. Perhaps it's a characteristic of the CFGC engine. Maybe the oil circuit, specifically the oil cooler, or the position of the sensor, is different in some way. Although I can't imagine that.

Okay, that's a lot of words for a simple answer. I have the oil temperatures for your Sharan, plus the weight-related adjustment.

I have the predecessor of the CFGB, which is the CBBB, in my Golf 6 GTD.

In everyday driving, I see temperatures ranging from 90 to 94 degrees Celsius, even during moderate acceleration up to 130 km/h. I only reach the 100-degree mark when the engine is under a very high load for an extended period, and it quickly drops back below 100 degrees when I drive slower.

The absolute maximum temperature I've seen in the past 6.5 years and 157,000 km was 118 degrees Celsius, which occurred during >30 minutes of sustained high speed driving on the empty A7 highway. My previous 1.9 TDI with 130 hp showed very similar values, as did a current Golf 7 Variant TDI with 150 hp that I rented.

I drive a 7N with the CFGB engine, which has 170 horsepower, and I can confirm that the oil temperature fluctuates significantly. On the highway, under load, 110°C is not uncommon, but it quickly drops again when driving more moderately.

However, I find that it takes a long time to warm up in the morning (oil temperature). I drive 23 km, mostly on country roads, to work, and even now (this morning it was 13°C), it's difficult to reach an oil temperature of 90°C. However, the engine doesn't experience much load because it's rarely possible to overtake.
Viele Grüße
Andreas

Hello,

"With my CBBB model with 170 horsepower, the temperature typically fluctuates around 95°C, varying by about 3°C up or down during normal driving on country roads."

Best regards,

Hello,

"On our 7N with the CFFB engine, the oil temperature can reach 125 degrees Celsius at high speeds on the highway. Therefore, I wouldn't be concerned."

Sincerely,
Christian.
