I'm in a bind and hoping you can help me again! I'm supposed to go on vacation this Saturday, so I bought and installed a GRA retrofit kit with a hopeful heart. The 2002 Golf IV with the ARL TDI engine had been running perfectly fine up until then, always starting immediately.

I followed all the instructions, then activated the GRA (Grossraumanschluss) in the MSTG (Multisystem-Triebwagen), and of course, I wanted to take it for a test drive.
Insert the ignition key, the preheating light comes on, the starter motor turns, relay 167 clicks approximately every half-second - and the car absolutely refuses to start! The WFS symbol is not illuminated, but it sounds like no diesel is being injected by the injectors.
The pre-lift pump operates as usual after turning on the ignition. I have checked all the fuses, and none of them appear to be obviously burnt. The error memory is empty.
Disassembled everything, checked the GRA wiring harness at the steering column (thought maybe some wires were misconnected, but they weren't) - the car still isn't running...
All plugs checked, everything appears to be okay...
I'm really not sure what's going on. The battery voltage at the MSTG was 10.9 volts - but the starter isn't turning weakly or noticeably slowly. Could it still be related to that?
I'm just going to charge the battery, but honestly, I don't think it's the onboard voltage... I haven't really had the ignition on much, nor have I used the radio.
If necessary, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor (the dual sensor).
This will generate an error message, but it also occurs with smaller values.
Starter speed (theoretically from 0), fuel released.
I see what looks like a power thief at the pedal switch in the last picture.
That's not very specific, as the TDI engines can be a bit sensitive in that regard.
The foot switch is activated. Normally, the cables for the GRA (Graphics Raster Adapter) should also be neatly connected there.
- Take a look at the documentation for the MSTG.
whether the signals from both pedal switches are coming through cleanly.
...if not.
...Check the foot switch and the plug/power tap.
Do the signals appear when each of the individual functions on the GRA lever is activated?
...if not.
... did you connect the correct pins to the large connector on the MSTG?
Just as a starting point for a checking routine .
Good luck!
Regards,
Mpire

Hi Alex,
Clicking sounds, and especially flickering of the pilot light, are not normal.
Installing a graphics card isn't rocket science, but it's still worth double-checking that you've...
You've managed to connect to the right contacts - especially with that lovely connector.
into the engine compartment (not because it ended up in the wrong chamber).
I'm not sure if a 2002 production year already includes the improved relay 109.
eingebaut war. Diese wĂŒrde ich ausbauen und prĂŒfen. MPossibly.
The circuit board cracked around the contacts.
If that's the case, then either repair it or replace it.
As a test, you can also bypass the relay and see if it starts then.
It's likely that the issue is related to your modifications. You may have miswired something, caused a short circuit, or accidentally bumped or touched something while working. Check everything carefully, inspect the relay holder, and also look at the other aftermarket components. It's possible that after all these years, simply removing and moving the fuse box and possibly the relay holder could have loosened a connection.
Okay, let me clarify: the connector for the GRA (presumably a component) or the connector in the water tank has nothing to do with the engine starting itself, right?
I disconnected the battery previously when removing the steering wheel, but then temporarily reconnected it to listen to the radio.
Could the MSTG (Main System Test Gear) have been affected? All the fuses are fine... So, theoretically, the problem might only be related to the diesel supply from the PDE (Pre-injection Diesel Element) to the combustion chamber, I suppose!
The car had been running perfectly fine up until that point, with full power and normal fuel consumption!
Today, I'm going to disconnect the fuel line and see how much fuel is coming out.
I'm trying to bypass relay 109 - which contacts do I need to bridge? I don't have a wiring diagram available...
What is the difference between the actual battery voltage and the battery voltage reported by the MWB (Main Working Board) from the MSTG (Main Switching and Control Gear)?
The voltage at the battery when the ignition is turned on is approximately 12.2 volts. At the same time, terminal 30 on the main switch has a voltage of 10.7 volts.
The car scan shows no new errors, and the main control unit is accessible!
I've reviewed everything again... in my opinion, the engine simply isn't getting any fuel, no matter how long it runs; all you hear is air coming out of the exhaust.
A jump start got it running for a solid 2 seconds...
The pump delivers a single dose of fuel from the fuel tank upon ignition and then delivers fuel intermittently during the starting process.
Could I have damaged the circuit board on the mstg in some way, because the battery was connected?
