Hello everyone,
First of all: I drive a TDI ASV 81 kW, 1.9L engine with a DSG (5-speed) transmission, manufactured in 2002, in a Seat Leon.
A major mishap has just happened to me.
It seems like the locking pin on the control panel cover has broken off. First, so everyone knows what I'm talking about:
(the lever, which is described by its angle)
It's the small lever that can be used to lock the derailleur for adjustment. When removing the shift lever (or, more accurately, the shift lever with counterweight), I locked the derailleur with the help of this pin. Then, I proceeded with not much force, and the locking mechanism broke. I did this because it was written in a tutorial ( http://tt-eifel.de/index.htm?technik/schaltweg/schaltwegverk.html (Note: passages have since been added that would have prevented my damage)). Afterwards, I did some research and probably should have left it alone.
I can't say for sure whether the pen broke or something else happened, but the outer part still functions exactly as before. The only difference is that now it can be locked in any position (unlike before, when it could only be locked when the switch was pressed down), and of course, the locking mechanism no longer works.
Well, it happened, I can't change it, and it won't happen again, but now I'll get to my point.
First question:
I now have (likely justified) doubts that a piece of the locking mechanism might have broken off and is now causing problems inside the gearbox. So far, no one has been able to give me a definitive answer about it.
Is there anyone here who is more familiar with the design of the gearbox in this area and can tell me whether it could potentially be dangerous?
Second question:
I also tried to unscrew the 'shift cover' mentioned above today, as it's supposed to be a separate module, but I couldn't manage it because either the seal is stuck or the shift rails inside the transmission are blocking it.
Unfortunately, I don't have an ASLE manual available. Could someone perhaps give me a tip on how to remove the shift cover? I'm still hoping that the shift shaft might be in a tunnel, and that the broken piece might be inside the shift shaft, so that I could simply remove it.
I would be very grateful, because if I were to take it to a workshop, they probably know less about the issue than I do, and they would likely start by disassembling the transmission, which would cost around 500€.
A desperate...
Marc
