Hi,
I couldn't find a dedicated thread for introductions, but it probably wouldn't hurt to start one:
I'm Roman from Bremen (27), and I recently bought a Golf 3 Variant 1.9SDI, manufactured in 1996 (chassis number 0603 394), which is quite unreliable.
I have already read both the instructions for sealing and various articles on the subject. Everything is clear: the O-ring on the central screw is leaking, no problem.
The only thing I couldn't understand, and that the Bosch service employee couldn't explain either, is why I have a sensor (apparently installed incorrectly) with a cable attached instead of the Allen head screw. The Bosch parts catalog for my vehicle also shows an Allen head screw. What exactly is the function of this screw? Does it adjust something that is now happening electrically in my case?
Ich bin, dank diverser verschiedener Fahrzeuge, schon durch einige Foren gegangen und muss zugeben dass dieses hier offensichtlich den höchsten technischen Anspruch hat. Eure "Fach"artikel haben den Namen verdient. Respect.
Happy Sunday, and thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi Roman,
What do you mean by "central screw"? Are you referring to the M10 fine-thread screw with a 10 (or 11) mm socket head, located in the center of the high-pressure component, which is removed to allow the insertion of a dial gauge?
There is no O-ring underneath. The cone provides the seal. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.

Okay, that's quite an answer. Very cool, thank you!
A friend, who's a toolmaker, made a custom tool for me, and then the old O-ring popped out.

What is the purpose of the conveyor signal sensor? Determining the start of the conveyor, the conveyor duration, and the pump speed seems unnecessary.
This doesn't change the injection control system, as the engine speed and NHG signal are available, and the injection duration is quantity-controlled.

A picture would be really great!
Does the engine have a knock sensor?
Is this sensor connected, and if so, where does it lead?
Alternatively, it would be interesting to see if a signal can be read out using VCDS.
My Screenshot shows that such a thing exists and what it does.
..but I have never seen this myself on a VW-Audi vehicle, and I can't find any information about its use depending on the model .
...possibly something homemade?
Regards, Mpire.

Somewhere (?) on the internet, I found information suggesting that the SDI was built as a naturally aspirated version of the TDI, and therefore, for example, it didn't have a mass airflow sensor. The engine code (AEV) was also uncertain. It's possible there was a more unusual or rare production series.

Hello,
Are you sure it's the SDI (direct injection) and not the older "1Y" engine with a swirl chamber?
I'm familiar with a sensor like that from a 1.9 TD engine, specifically from a Golf 3. I removed it back then during an engine swap into a Multicar and replaced it with a blank plug.
Best regards,
Kaum macht man es richtig, funktioniert es!

I've been pondering that too...
But now that you mention it, I found it too.
It seems to only apply to the mechanical pumps, and I'm quite sure that our user (TE) doesn't mean SDI, but rather it's a normal "D" model .
TN, for reference: 028907319E.
Best regards,

The original poster provided the vehicle's chassis number in the first post, which indicates that it is an SDI model.

is referred to as "Impulse Sender" on an English-language website and appears to have been installed on the mechanical pump for 1Y, AAZ, and Ecomatic 1Y engines.
Hast Du Bilder der ESP und der Düsen, und die Tl. What is the ESP number?

Here's the translation:
"It needs to match something, but here's what I found on the internet so far:"
AAZ engine with trigger sensor, e.g., 028130115P(X).
You can even find pictures of them at the large, colorful auction house, complete with donor information.
Associated injector nozzle, 028130201B(X)
Or was the question directed at the original poster? It would be nice if he provided more detailed information...
