Air Filter Hose: What is its purpose?

I've always wondered what the purpose of this hose is and where it leads.
This is a 2.0 TDI BKD engine.
The image is just an example and was quickly grabbed from the internet!

This is the ATM connector of the N75.

"zu Deutsch" bedeutet "in German".
In this case, the valve that controls the turbocharger is drawing in "normal air."
The other connection on the valve is labeled "vacuum".

It "mixes" the vacuum pressure, which then directs the VTG, resulting in varying amounts of pressure at times.

It was worn out on my car because it was torn at the end, but I didn't notice any difference in the way it handled... which, as I now know, is how it was supposed to be.

He's probably put it there so that the N75 only receives filtered air!

Yes, exactly.
Some valves have their own built-in microfilters.
Some people even add an additional restrictor.

The hose seems to be considered a delicacy by martens.
It is also attractively arranged and cut into bite-sized pieces .

It might be worth noting that hoses that have been chewed on or damaged should be repaired, even if they are only leaking air.

Because the air filter draws in relatively clean air. If the hose is simply hanging loose in the engine compartment, dirt can be sucked into the magnetic valves for turbocharger control, swirl flap switching, or for the EGR system. This can cause the magnetic valves to jam and fail. -> Replacing damaged hoses is a preventative measure that costs very little.

In the first picture, there's a really cool hose connecting the mass airflow sensor (MAF) to the intake manifold and to the air filter!

That's probably some kind of ion exchanger .
Unfortunately, because it's a PD (presumably referring to a product or service), the quality is quite poor.
the magnetic field aligners are installed on the fuel lines .

Yes, of course, I shortened the end of the hose just before the crack and reattached it. Otherwise, the engine would also be drawing air through the open end in front of the air filter, and in the end, it would be getting its own polluted air...

Yes, that's correct, but that would be the large AGR, exiting at the rear after the exhaust and re-entering before the air filter... and without any regulation!!

The rear suspension mounting and the splash guard suggest a Polo platform rather than a Golf platform, which means it looks like a Deus Violentias custom build?

I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but in my Sharan 7n, the plastic tube on the air filter housing, where the N75 hose is connected, has broken off.
I've temporarily patched the hole in the air filter housing with a screw and covered the hose with a breathable cloth secured with a cable tie.

I would first inquire about the price of the spare part from VW. Some parts are actually not as expensive as one might initially fear .
Otherwise, I see possibilities for sourcing used replacement parts or gluing the broken area, provided the individual components are still available.

Often, simply shortening it is enough.
