Replace the gearbox or reinstall it? The scratch is about 3-4 mm deep.

Are you referring to the "three-quarter ring" around the drive shaft?

Hi,
It doesn't look like 3-4mm at all, it seems much smaller. Are you sure it's around the gearbox input?
Regarding the Skoda Octavia, there's a Technical Problem Investigation (TPI) for this issue, and someone from the forum has already experienced the same thing.
Okay, here's my translation:
"I'm going to tattle."
Quote: | According to TPI, there are three cases:
"Fragments of the pressure plate have embedded themselves into the clutch housing by less than 0.5 mm."
"More than 0.5 mm, but not through."
3. polished.
For item 1, a new clutch is required; for item 2, in addition to the clutch, the clutch housing ("housing half") needs to be replaced; and for item 3, a new gearbox is needed. |
The person who was affected at the time may still get in touch.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hi!
Take a look at the first image above.
Exactly in the center of the image, approximately 25% from the bottom edge.
On the rounded part where the bearing is located on the inside.
It might be coming through there.
When you zoom in on the image properly, it looks at least a little strange.

Yes, the 3/4 ring around the drive shaft. I don't think there are significant forces acting there. And there is no oil pressure either.

Okay, I can see the transmission input shaft in the center of the image, and it appears to be worn down by about ~1mm. The drive shaft is on the left edge of the picture and seems undamaged.
Can you highlight what you mean in the picture? Maybe I'm just not seeing it.
Best regards, Rainer.

The formerly smooth, now grooved, circular areas on the (coupling) housing are the rear sides of the bearings for the output shaft and the return shaft. Forces act there already (radially, and also axially).
One would simply need to know how much material is still available and how deep the grooves are relative to the original surface.
The housing part could probably be replaced (similar to the Golf 7, which I'm currently looking at), but doing so would require adjusting the drive shaft, output shaft, and differential.

Okay, I can only do this tonight on my computer and upload it as a new image here. Just let me know if there are any copyright issues or anything like that.

Hello,
I've seen this before on a Sharan, year of manufacture 2013, with a 2.0 TDI engine and a 6-speed gearbox. The part was completely worn through. The wall thickness in that area is about 5mm.
I don't think the housing is being pushed out by something inside.
In the worst-case scenario, hairline cracks can form and it may start to leak. So, as long as it's still sealed, I would verschandeln the area with acetone and fill it with solder.
I have had very good experiences using special aluminum filler for cracks in aluminum oil pans, broken cooling fins, and damaged sealing surfaces. It can also be easily machined afterwards.
It is dense and has almost the same properties as liquid metal, which might otherwise peel off.
This product has always worked well for this purpose.
FIELDS - Soldering wire "AL" Sn97Cu3, compliant with DIN EN 29454.1 2.1.2.C.
• For soft soldering aluminum and aluminum alloys with integrated flux.
• Melting point range: 230-250 °C.
Depending on the size of the component and its heat dissipation, it is necessary to use the appropriate heating device.
"For flat surfaces, a hot air gun works well. In this case, I would use a mini gas soldering iron to direct the heat specifically to the area and avoid heating the entire casing."
Regards, Mpire.

Hi!
Here's what I saw. Or at least, what I think is worth looking at. Just take a look and see if you agree; I might be mistaken. It could be a crack that goes all the way through.
I just took a closer look because I had a similar severely damaged transmission in my hands years ago. I no longer remember the vehicle type.
And there, the detached pieces of the bearing had created a small hole in the transmission housing, in a location that was completely unrelated to the actual problem.

Hi there,
I find that the "Lot" action is like applying filler; it doesn't really achieve anything when used.
Steffen - I agree with you, there is a suspicion of a crack .
Sure, here's the translation:
"Best regards," or "Sincerely," (depending on the context).
Herbert.

I wouldn't necessarily have attributed that scratch to the faulty clutch. It looks a bit like a crack, but if it is a crack, it probably existed before.
Best regards,
