Audi A3 8P Heated Mirrors - Replacement & Repair

I happened to be looking at the measurement data for the mirror heating system today, and I was surprised:

Contrary to my previous belief, I cannot freely turn the heated mirror on and off using the mirror adjustment knob. The following function is available:

- Activation only occurs when the engine is running; the ignition alone is not sufficient.
- When I set the mirror switch to the heating symbol,

unknown to me... if the background of your question is the durability of the heating film: it can be easily and cheaply repaired.

However, the repair only makes sense for dimmable mirrors, as a new, non-dimmable glass costs less than a case of beer.
