Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem with the aftermarket GRA (Gas Return Actuator) on my Polo; it's not working.
I measured the lever and also tested a second one that was definitely working.
The body control module starts with the code 6Q1, which means it must cooperate with the cruise control system.
I hadn't experienced this data bus error problem before.
Can someone help me or give me some tips on where to start looking for the problem?

A vehicle scan is always the basic prerequisite here.
Since we don't know how and where you connected the cables to the electrical system, we might as well pull out our crystal ball. It would certainly be a good idea to carefully check all connection points and see if anything else was damaged during the work.

Then, once everything is correctly coded, it's quite simple to check the switch positions and button presses in the measured values.

I unlocked the cruise control function in the engine control unit with the code 11463. This is also evident in the measurement data blocks of the control unit.

It appears to be a faulty signal line.
Since the error only occurs sporadically, it could be a problem with the connection between the brake light switch and the engine control unit.

Pin A36 - when the ignition is on and the brake pedal is pressed, a voltage of 11-14 volts should be present.

Pin A 60, ignition on, brake pedal pressed = 0 volts.

The Polo was never available with GRA. Some engine control units (ECUs) are unable to process the brake pedal signal.

For some 1.2 and 1.4 models, the GRA (presumably a feature or function) can be activated, but it still doesn't work.

The problem is often the control unit. Possibly, the GRA (Gear Ratio Adaption) function still needs to be activated in the engine control unit.

Your battery voltage is below 12.4V. I would fix that first.

Otherwise, as mentioned before, carefully check for errors in the work that has already been done. Another possibility is that the wiring harness is actually not properly assembled.

Hello everyone,
I checked all the components today. The GRA switch is functioning exactly as it should. I tested everything using the XS3 connector on the BNS. Therefore, I can rule out a defect in the wiring harness.
I also measured the two CAN bus lines from the Body Control Module (BCM) to the Message System Gateway (MSG). Everything seems to be perfectly fine here as well.
The GRA switch, when in the ON position, also conducts electricity to the MSG (I don't know the exact pin right now), but when in the OFF position, no electricity flows.

I temporarily reinstalled the old BNS unit using parts with the 6Q2 part number. I can delete the errors, but they immediately reappear.

I would like to check if it a) directs to the correct pin and b) if the power supply is coming from the correct pin.

Specifically, based on my own experience, I would check to see if the connector was accidentally inserted in the wrong orientation (plugged in from the wrong side).

I agree with Rainer; it looks like some kind of wiring.

Can you really trace all functions (on/off, set, etc.) in the actuator diagnostics or based on the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)? That could significantly narrow down the possibilities regarding the wiring of the switch.

How did you transfer the coding data from the vehicle's control unit?
You converted from Basic 6Q2 to Medium 6Q1.
Perhaps you could double-check the encoding to see if everything was transmitted correctly.
I believe something else is also not quite right. You should take another close look at the coding 01038.

Have you replaced anything else, or just added the GRA (Gear Range Actuator)? Was the "control unit error - climate control" issue present before? Did you perhaps make a scan before you started installing the GRA?

I may have expressed myself poorly.
The entire system was checked for continuity using a multimeter. In the measurement blocks, I can only see ON, OFF, as well as clutch and brake functions. I don't see anything related to "Set," "Res," or other functions that are supposed to be controlled via the BNS (Bus Network System). Therefore, we are conducting a multimeter test to rule out any issues with the lever or the wiring.
I'm sure the cables are in the right place inside the plug. I have cross-referenced the pin assignments of the BNS.
I transferred the code 01038 from the originally installed 6Q2 to the 6Q1. Based on the VCDS information, I haven't found anything that needs to be changed in the coding.
The air conditioning malfunction has been happening before.
I am particularly concerned about data bus errors. Especially since they weren't there before, and they're also reappearing with the old 6Q2, even though I removed the GRA connector from the BNS.

Your vehicle's body control module also functions as a gateway. Since the GRA was likely also activated when switching to the old control unit, there is also an error message in this case.

Did you disconnect the GRA connector from the body control module? The entire connector? The drive bus is connected to it! Then an error message should appear.

It's not easy to help you from a distance, so I'm just going to offer a few suggestions on how you might proceed.

If you haven't had any other errors besides the climate control unit, the potential sources of the problem can be relatively easily narrowed down.

1 Control unit.
2. Wiring harness.
3. GRA Lever.

I would like to decode the GRA signal and then see what other errors you might have.

Then, I would reinstall the old lever and disconnect the wiring harness. This would allow you to test whether the new control unit is working correctly. If you still have errors, it could be the new control unit. Then try the old version and check for errors.

If you no longer encounter any errors at a particular point, you start upgrading again.

If I'm not completely mistaken, the 01038 doesn't fit. I'm seeing a remote unlocking feature for the rear hatch in your vehicle . I can't see that feature in your vehicle's configuration.

Perhaps one of the VCDS experts here could take a look and chime in if I'm wrong.

There were also engine control units in the Polo models that did not support the GRA (Gasoline Direct Injection) system. Specifically, there were issues with this regarding the 1.2L and 1.4L vehicles. If you inquire about it, you'll find out whether your control unit is affected.

The solution to the problem was the vehicle's onboard computer.
Originally, a 6Q2937049F was installed, and I installed a 6Q1937049. However, not even the interval wiping function worked with this.

A 6Q1937049C is currently installed. "Everything works perfectly, except the illumination of the hazard light switch is noticeably brighter than with the 6Q2."
