Hello,

After replacing the valve cover gasket on my Polo with the 1.4 TDI engine (engine code BWB, year of manufacture 2008), it still isn't sealing properly even after tightening it by feel. I would like to try again using a new gasket and the correct torque specifications.

Can someone provide the specified tightening sequence and corresponding torque values?

Thank you very much.

I would estimate the torque to be around 10 Nm based on my experience. For more precise information, please contact Erwin; downloading or printing the relevant repair manuals will be worthwhile.

Best regards, Rainer.

Good evening.

As the boss correctly suspected...

10 Nm

First, tighten all the screws by hand.

First, tighten both screws at the top, then tighten the remaining screws from the inside out in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque. Use a socket adapter with a Torx T 30 bit (part number T-10347).

Best regards,

Michael.

Normally, the valve cover will seal properly if you tighten it carefully in several stages... so don't try to fully tighten it all at once during the first tightening.

Small beads of sealant (silicone sealant, see RLF) should be applied to the four corners where the ZK section meets the NW storage area. The bonding surfaces must be free of grease. After assembly, it is recommended to wait a few hours before putting the system into operation.

I would also check the VD for cracks.

Hi there!

I've experienced this more than once: the cylinder head cover was warped and simply wouldn't seal properly.

Best regards, Rüdi.
