Hello,

In one of my "premium" vehicles (an Audi A3 2.0 TDI), a service is due, and during the inspection, I noticed oil leaks on the cylinder head, as shown in the photos. The engine code is CFFB, with only 136,000 km. icon_sad.gif

Using a lighter, I tried to locate the source of the oil fumes, but unfortunately, I couldn't find anything. Therefore, I suspect that there might be a leak somewhere in the plastic seals of the cylinder head cover/oil separator.
Does anyone know if there's a known cause for this issue?

To remove the hood, you need to take out the injectors and disassemble the fuel rail. It's a lot of work, and there are many things that can go wrong. icon_evil.gif

It would have been better if I had gone with Skoda back then; the same technology for a reasonable price. icon_rolleyes.gif

Tips regarding cylinder head covers are welcome.

Best regards, Rainer.

"It usually leaks somewhere around the filler neck, and I think there's even a technical service bulletin (TPI) for it. They used to replace the caps, but now they just glue them on."

It would be great if that were the case... Does anyone happen to know about these TPIs? Or does anyone know where the leak is coming from?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

I have a Skoda, and on my car, the oil level indicator is in the same place as it is on yours.
And that's been the case since the very first inspection.

I have never taken any action against it, and I won't in the future either.

Best regards, Christian.

Hello,

There's a cautious sign of relief. After I patched a small crack in the connecting pipe of the crankcase ventilation system, no more oil has leaked out.

The area where the friction is occurring is somewhat distant (fiberglass material on the turbocharger), and it didn't occur to me that it could be a possible cause of the oil leaking onto the injector.
The fact is that there is no more oil accumulating on the injector now.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

Could you please describe in more detail where the area that was damaged or worn through was located?
My valve cover looks exactly like yours, and your solution sounds promising.

Thank you and best regards.
Bernd.

Hi,

The fiberglass insulation (heat shield) from the turbocharger had rubbed against the black plastic corrugated tube (crankcase ventilation).

Best regards, Rainer.
