Hello,

I upgraded the steering column switch with the GRA lever on my Audi A6 C4 2.5L TDI and routed the corresponding cables to the control unit and fuse box according to the relevant instructions.
So far, so good.

Unfortunately, it seems my control unit is not able to execute the GRA activation.

Vehicle manufactured in July 1997.
Motor AEL
6-speed manual transmission.
without MFA.

The automatic error diagnosis shows only 1 error:

When entering 11463 using the login code, as described here, nothing happens.

When I try to achieve anything related to "coding" using VCDS, I receive a message indicating that coding is not possible in that control unit.

"The measurement block displays 'Data not available for block 006'." For a moment, it displays the corresponding values, but then the text turns red again.
--> Pedal switches are functioning (pressing the clutch pedal shows 100, pressing the brake pedal shows 011).

Did I miss a step so that it can take over the GRA activation?
Does my control unit not work at all?
Do I need an additional control unit?

Which engine control units (ECUs) are known to be functional?
Do you have any suggestions on where else I can look or ask?

The tip about the GRA bits being on/off was a good one.

I also found this and noticed that in measurement block 006, the non-activated GRA displays "255" in the 4th position. Field of MWB 006:

Okay, in my case, it's still "disabled," and the value 255 appeared in the fourth position. Field.
Okay, so I entered "login for GRA 'activated'" and then it was on the 4th [line/step/screen]. Field "0.0".
According to this, the MSG at least accepts the login code.

So, the problem probably isn't in the MSG (presumably a module), but rather in the hardware/steering column switch, or something similar. Wiring? (I actually checked it with a multimeter before installation.)

In field 3 of MWB 006, "GRA Switch Positions," the values are not changing, no matter which button I press. It always displays "000000" in that field.

What makes me suspicious is the red text (see video). Is that normal?

Okay, that's great already!

GRA, does the lever require +12V, are the connections properly inserted?

Besides that, my original GRA (gear selector) lever on my A3 8P broke after a very short time; the GRA stopped working. So, the lever itself can be another potential source of error.

I then set it to "always on" because you can always turn it off if you want.

If the measured data appears six times in some cases and not in others, it could indicate that the bit rates in the communication between the ECU and the interface are incorrect. This can happen when quartz crystals age...

If it works now, then it's fine.
