RNS Radio Issues: Troubleshooting & Solutions

Hello everyone,

'Does anyone else experience the problem where the car radio briefly turns off during the starting process, and then, after it turns back on (often when it's hot, like it is now), there's no sound? It's almost as if it's cursed. You can manually turn the radio on and off, but that usually doesn't help. Sometimes, only after restarting the car (sometimes multiple times) does the sound come back! Does anyone have a solution for this?'

Just a small addition: Unfortunately, you didn't mention which car you have. For example, in a G4 with the 'Radio Gamma' equipment, pins 3 (self-diagnosis) and 5 (control signal for anti-theft system) should be removed from the compact connector and placed somewhere isolated. Furthermore, the radio should be connected to a constant power supply (+12V).

I think I made a mistake. The navigation radio is not called 'Gamma,' but rather MCD (monochrome display). The vehicle is a Golf 4 (manufactured in November 1999) station wagon with a TDI engine. I hope you can use this better information to help me solve my problem.

The VW Gamma is not a navigation radio; I only used it as an example to illustrate a possible connector configuration that would not be compatible with non-factory radios.
Now things are slowly becoming clearer; it's not a Blaupunkt RNS unit, but rather...
Was was the VW navigation system with MCD (presumably referring to a specific feature or brand) originally installed in the car from the factory?

Hi, I have the MFD (the one with the color monitor). This error has occurred for me before. It's probably not the same issue, since the devices are different. Since I tried diagnosing the radio using VAG Com, I haven't had any problems anymore. The display then showed "Diagnosis..." (But I didn't change anything there, nor could or wanted to). Check in the navigation forum; I'm quite sure that there is a new (more current) software available for your navigation system, since it's from 1999. Such an update really makes sense. Does anyone know if there are simple software updates available for the standard navigation system in Audi vehicles (model year 2000, without a color display, only displaying information in the FIS)? I often experience corrupted characters and symbols, and sometimes even crashes.
