Good evening, everyone.

I'm having problems with a Golf 6 TDI.

Around 2000-2300 RPM, it appears.
Red oil pressure lamp. It won't go away.
until the engine is restarted.

The oil pressure light does not come on when the engine is idling.

Error memory is empty.

Engine running smoothly.
No unusual noises.

Oil and filter changed.
Oil level is okay.
Oil pump replaced.
Oil pressure switch replaced.
Replaced the strainer for the oil pump.
Timing belt for oil pump is OK.

Next, measure the oil pressure using a pressure gauge.
Does anyone happen to know the thread size? I'm looking for an adapter.
build.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas?

1.6 TDI, 105 horsepower, 230,000 km, manual transmission.

Hello!

As far as I can tell, you're doing a good job.

I probably should have checked the oil pressure first.

The oil pressure switch might have a 10x1 thread.
I'm not sure about that.

It would also be possible to empty out the old oil pressure switch and weld a fitting onto it, or braze it on securely.

Workshops usually have a case with a few adapters for measurements.
You could also ask if you can borrow it.
Grüße, Steffen!

I agree completely. Check the oil pressure with a gauge first; don't drive it before that.

A neighbor drove his Touareg 3.0 TDI until it seized, despite having an oil can visible, and now the repair will cost him between 15,000 and 20,000 euros.

I'm reading this and I'm having a similar problem with a CAYC. In this case, the light only comes on intermittently when the oil is really hot, and it takes about 100 to 200 km of driving, especially in stop-and-go traffic. However, I haven't experienced it firsthand, the customer described it like this. It used to be better after each oil change, and I thought it might be due to diesel fuel entering the oil, but it's not better even after an oil change now.

Hello!

That's the typical behavior.
It was the same with my Golf 2 back in the day.

Driving the car really fast on the highway causes the oil to get hot and thin.
Then, in city traffic at low RPM, it doesn't get much cooler, but the oil pump's RPM is lower, and sometimes the warning light would come on in that situation as well.
Over time, the oil molecules break down, which also makes the oil thinner.

My hydraulic lifters were also making some noise.

However, I wasn't in the mood for major engine repairs with uncertain outcomes.
I got the matching engine from a friend's car that had been in an accident, in exchange for two cases of beer (yes, that was still possible 20 years ago), I installed it, and then drove with it for many years.

I think the ball joints were the problem in my case.
The 1.8-liter gasoline engine from VW, with 90 horsepower, was known for being virtually indestructible.
But if the previous owner never changed or topped up the oil, or did any other silly things,
"Eventually, any engine will break down."

But still:
Measure oil pressure.
I once saw a measuring device with a pressure gauge that had a long hose.
This could also be placed inside the car during test drives.
Grüße, Steffen!

A cheap part from China is sufficient for measuring oil pressure; it doesn't need to be very sophisticated, and adapters are usually included.

Good evening.

Unfortunately, the lamp didn't arrive today.

Oil pressure switch removed and measurement adapter.
montiert. Engine started.

Subsequently, oil pressure measurement:
Oil pressure (cold engine): 1.5 bar (idle).
Engine oil pressure (warm): 0.8 bar (idle).
Oil pressure, warm engine, 2500 RPM: 2.2 bar.

The funny thing for me was that the...
The oil pressure warning light went out after starting.
remained until the speed reached 1500-2000.
It's rising. Then the lamp came back on.

It didn't matter whether the oil pressure switch...
whether it was plugged into the socket or not.

If the lamp doesn't arrive immediately after...
Start?

After reinstalling the oil pressure switch.
ist die Lampe nicht gekommen. Not at all.
30-minute drive.

The oil pressure is only measured at approximately 1800 RPM, but it can be adjusted in the combination instrument.

Thank you.

Does anyone have reference values for...?
What about the oil pressure?

Best regards,

Minimum oil pressure at idle: 0.8 bar.
Engine oil pressure (running engine): 1.5 bar.
Maximum oil pressure: 5.0 bar.

I don't have any more information.

Hi,
For the A4: Warm up the engine (to a minimum of 80°).
Measure oil pressure: at idle, it should be at least 0.6 bar; at 2000 rpm, it should be at least 1 bar.
It will be no different with the CAYC, which is a derivative of the EA189.
Make sure that all the seals are replaced/installed during the oil filter change.

Ölfilter kontrolliert und gewechselt. Everything was clean.
Replaced the oil pressure switch (0.3-0.6 bar) again.

Removed the oil pressure switch and allowed the engine to crank.
Kommt ein satter Strahl raus. And right back again.
installed a new one.

Perhaps the best solution would be to build an adapter.
where I can also monitor the oil pressure while driving.
can measure.

However, according to VAG, the oil pressures appear to be too low.

Could it be that the oil pressure sensor is faulty?
There are probably some that have a pressure of 1.4 bar as well.

Question: Shouldn't the oil pressure switch be doing something?
Is it open? I have the old one (2 weeks old).
Oil pressure sensor tested for continuity.
No entry.

"No" is a type of sensor, and it's only measured at approximately 1500 revolutions.

No. Imagine you have a loose connection or a chewed-through cable in the wiring. In that case, the "open" sensor would indicate "everything is okay."

Hi!

I've pretty much lost touch with modern technology these days.
Keine Praxiserfahrung mehr mit den neuen Autos. Unfortunately.

I once dealt with a similar problem with my neighbor's old Audi A4. It must have been about 5 years ago.

I got the oil pressure gauge from the workshop next door.
The values were good.
I don't know if it had one or two oil pressure switches, but they're not expensive, so I installed a new one.
No change.

As for the rest, he took care of it himself:

So, he actually removed the speedometer instrument himself.
That was the mistake.
He either sent it somewhere to be repaired, or he got a replacement part.

Anyway, it was fine again.
And it continued to run smoothly for several more years.
Grüße, Steffen!
