I bought a relatively inexpensive new housing (074 906 461 B) with a Bosch sensor (F 00C 2G2 055), and the seller claimed that it would also fit the ALH (and many other engine types). Unfortunately, after I asked again, he admitted that he was only selling parts from an insolvency case and didn't know anything else... Well, what doesn't one do to save 280 euros.
The new housing has an additional internal tube with a finer mesh grid, and angled louvers at a 45-degree angle in front of it (presumably for lower airflow speed). Only the bottom part of the mass airflow sensor (MAF), which contains some copper pins or something similar, is inserted into this tube. The top part, with the bare sensing surface, remains outside in the normal airflow as before. What also strikes me is the changed design of the F 00C 2G2 055. My F 00C 2G2 027 has a straight bottom section with only one opening for the air to pass through. The F 00C 2G2 055, on the other hand, slopes downwards and has openings all over.
I almost suspect this is an improved version due to the numerous defects found in older models; the production date is May 2003. Has anyone on the forum received a brand new TDI and checked inside the air filter box to see if there are two grilles nested together?
Anyway, I installed the part in my old housing because there were no better alternatives, and the car now runs like new again

. However, I still have a nagging feeling that this second pipe and the different design somehow need to match up, and that the mass airflow sensor isn't measuring correctly for me...
So, if anyone has a clue what the numbers on the Bosch sensors mean or knows what is being measured in the lower part of the MAF sensor, please post it here!
Thank you very much.
Robert.
