VAG-COM Interface Issues: Troubleshooting Guide

Hello everyone,

I recently bought an OBD II ISO interface on eBay with the intention of using it with VCDS (Vag-Com) on my G4 ALH.

Connected according to the instructions - the device is recognized as such by VAG-Com - but unfortunately, I cannot access the most important control units.
It only works with the instruments, Climatronic system, radio, and central locking.

My question to everyone:

Does anyone recognize this device? And if so, can anyone guess why it's not working properly for me, or only working partially?

I'm not familiar with that component, and all I can say about your problems is that the thing probably works in principle, but likely only just barely, otherwise everyone would be able to connect to it.

The cause could also be related to the computer itself; this diagnostic article offers some tips to investigate the issue further.
And there's adapter test software available for download, which you can use to roughly check the transmission properties.

Your case prompted me to add more information to the adapter article -> specifically, the "VAGCOM Bugs" section.

It might be too late for you in some cases, but hopefully it will still be helpful.

Look at this, another one with the Ics (integrated circuit) chips sanded down. It seems to be a common trend, and even some well-known appliance manufacturers are doing it.

Despite that, the MAX232 chip can be identified on the right side by the four electrolytic capacitors.

It seems to have similarities with Miks adapters, so the 7404 might be on the left.
