Hello,

I recently came across this company and have already requested a quote from them.

The filter costs 215 euros, and a filter cartridge costs 11 euros.

If what the manufacturer promises is true, I could definitely see myself making this investment.

However, what makes me suspicious are their stated "reasons for selling"!
- Quieter engine operation.
- Consumption reduction
-Improved vehicle availability.
... and so on!

And 200,000 km without an oil change? hmmmm.... icon_question.gif

Here is the homepage of the manufacturer.
http://www.delta-technik.de/index.html

Does anyone have long-term experience with this type of filter and can share their thoughts on it?

Greetings.
Thomas.

Hi,

You still have to replace the fine filter regularly, and it's more expensive than a "normal" oil filter.
In my opinion, the savings aren't significant enough to justify the cost of installation.
Recently, Praktiker (a German hardware store) had motor oil on sale that met the correct manufacturer specifications for my TDI engine, and it was priced at €9.95.
So, before I start making any major changes and potentially save a small amount of money after 250,000 km, I'd rather just keep using fresh oil for my engine.

"And 'no oil consumption due to oil changes' is nonsense. Firstly, oil remains in the fine filter during an oil change, and secondly, the engine itself consumes oil. At a rate of 1 liter per 10,000 kilometers, that already accounts for around 30% of the total amount of oil consumed during an oil change."
Approximately 70% remains. 5% gets stuck in the fine filter or leaks out during the oil change, resulting in a maximum of 65% of the oil consumed during the engine's operation being saved.

You drive 200,000 km.

Normal costs for oil + oil filter: per oil change, 20 euros for the oil + 8 euros for the filter = 28 euros.
200,000 km / 15,000 km = 13.33 oil changes. Total cost: 373.3 Euros.

Costs with fine filter: Purchase cost: 215 Euros + (13.33 * fine filter for 11 Euros) + (20 liters of engine oil for 20 Euros per 5-liter canister) = 215 Euros + 146 Euros + 80 Euros for engine oil = 441.6 Euros.

Interest charges for the 215 euros and losses due to oil spillage during the fine filter change haven't even been factored in yet.

That part is nonsense.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi,

Let's put the factor of cost-effectiveness aside for a moment. How about the filter functions themselves?

I wonder what the benefit is. Does this filter really protect the engine by filtering out microscopic particles from the oil? I can't imagine that's the case, but I haven't been able to find any explanation about it anywhere.

Greetings.
Thomas.

Greetings!

"In various municipalities, these filters have been installed in trucks. So far, there have been no negative experiences, and it is claimed that oil consumption has been reduced. However, I am still skeptical about the whole thing. If you are looking for a reliable source to obtain good quality engine oil at a reasonable price, then the cost of retrofitting these filters is likely not worth it."

I think it's mostly a matter of mindset. It's interesting to consider that AVL List (a global engine developer for companies like VW, Mercedes, and BMW, among others) conducted tests in Graz where identical truck engines were run on a test bench with different oil change intervals. The engines where the engine oil was only topped up showed the least signs of wear. Why?

Greetings, Peter.
