Hi!
I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who is currently on the highway. He suddenly experienced a loss of power across the entire RPM range, and the turbo is no longer boosting (TDI 90hp with a chip, tuned to ~120hp).
All I know is that it could be a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor issue. I've only experienced this once before, and in that case, it manifested as a brief burst of turbo boost, but then, apparently, the MAF sensor was providing incorrect values at 3000 rpm, which prevented the engine from exceeding 3500 rpm.
What could it be if the engine has no power across the entire RPM range? Its top speed seems to be only just over 110 km/h... at first glance, it sounds like a turbocharger problem to me... what do you think?
best regards, marc

Hi Marc,
TDIs are characterized by the fact that various underlying causes can be responsible for the same or similar symptoms. If you delve into the relevant scientific articles, you'll get an idea of why "no power" is practically useless for making a reliable diagnosis. Gruß Ulf

I had already narrowed it down a bit... it seems to be happening across the entire RPM range, and the turbo doesn't seem to be engaging at all.
I've already read most of the articles... I'll take another look.

hi
Maybe this will help. I once had a small hole in the blue vacuum hose of the turbocharger, caused by a badger bite. The car could only go about 75 mph, and I missed the turbo whistle. I patched the hose, and everything was okay again. Maybe something is leaking.
look, chris.

On the 1Z (90 SP TDI) engine, there are no vacuum hoses connected to the turbocharger. Only pressure hoses (i.e., boost pressure or "adjusted" boost pressure).

The issue has been resolved. He took the car to the workshop, and it turned out to be the mass airflow sensor (MAF). Thanks to everyone for their help!
