On my Passat Variant 3B AFN, manufactured in 1999, the indicator lights from the ventilation vents (right side of the middle and passenger side) have stopped working. Is there a fuse for this, or are the indicator lights/LEDs themselves faulty? Where and how can I, if it's the bulbs, replace them without breaking or scratching various parts?
Best regards, Paul |

hello,
I did this on my wife's Passat (Bj99) once. First, you have to remove the entire air intake. However, this is not as easy as described in the manuals, and in my case, it ended with me having to buy a new middle air intake from VAG (around €50). When I was at VAG, they had about 10 pieces in stock. The mechanic said, 'They always break when you remove them!' The screws at the back cannot be removed with standard tools.
My summary: I will wait until all 4 pears are defective.
- The lighting is unnecessary! At
There are none in my Golf IV.
and that works perfectly too!

Hello Paul!
Here's a link to a page where you can find instructions on how to install air vents, among other things.
It worked perfectly on my 3B, 07/97!

Hello Andreas,
I had this instruction too, and I am definitely
- not clumsy - but it was not easy to get it out. The information from VAG was 'They are gone.'
most often break during expansion, therefore they are always on
'Warehouse'. Furthermore, the construction with the retaining brackets is really very strange and designed to fail. Should be again
I'll just throw the apple away, I don't want to waste my time.
Best regards, Jürgen

Hi, I can only confirm what's here and advise against removing the air vent yourself. I tried it today (the one on the left, at the front) and it broke for me too. Cost: €53!! |

Hello,
At the Passi, the ventilation outlets use standard incandescent light bulbs.
With a little skill, you can replace them with LEDs.
And the vents work really well when you set the heater to full power and let all the air come out through the vents.
Due to the heat, the plastic becomes soft/elastic and doesn't break when removed |
