Hello,
I'm having the following problem:
'The performance of my A3 temporarily drops when driving at a constant speed (e.g., on the highway), and you can feel it, although the speed doesn't decrease significantly. It reaches its maximum speed much slower than usual, and it probably doesn't even reach the full maximum speed anymore.'
When I suddenly accelerate (press the gas pedal) in the higher gears (4th and 5th), very little happens at first. In the lower gears (1st and 2nd), it's as responsive as before. At least up to 3,500 RPM. Above this RPM, it behaves as if it wants to hit the rev limiter, but then it revs up again... then it wants to hit the rev limiter again, but then it revs up again... that's the show .
The A3 is a TDI model, with 90 horsepower, manufactured in May 2000, has 80,000 kilometers (approximately 50,000 miles) on the odometer, and is in 'original' condition. The major service (KD) has been performed (2 years / 60,000 kilometers).
I've already searched the forum, but I haven't found anything conclusive that indicates this specific problem has been discussed before.
Regards,
Stefan.

How about the boost pressure, air mass readings, etc.? Is everything okay?
Try searching for 'performance loss'. You should find dozens of posts that address your problem! They might not be exactly the same, but they'll essentially be the same issue.

Yes, I think I've found a post that closely matches the symptoms of my A3. Therefore, I will remove the post within the next few hours.
Thank you!

I suspect it's either LMM (likely manifold mass) or boost pressure.

I was also able to 'extract' information about LMM so far.
What do you understand by 'boost pressure'?
(I'm just a hobbyist who tinkers with old cars, so my knowledge is limited...)

ok!
'Boost pressure is the pressure generated by the turbocharger. If there isn't enough boost pressure due to some issue, then there isn't enough oxygen available in the cylinders for combustion. As a result, the engine may produce excessive soot! You should check the boost pressure using a tool like VAG-COM or a boost gauge and compare it to the target values for your engine, which you can find elsewhere.'

Fortunately, I know what turbocharger boost is. (It's been available as standard equipment since 1976 in the 911 and the BMW 2002 ).
I have the impression that the consumption has increased somewhat. I've already consciously been looking in the rearview mirror for signs of vapor, but I haven't seen anything. According to the consumption figures, it could very well be due to a lack of oxygen.
What could these adverse conditions be that repeatedly cause the boost pressure to drop?
Actually, I wanted to remove this entire topic, but I can only delete the last post... so I guess I'll just be hanging around here for a while, sorry!

First, check the LMM! If the exhaust isn't producing soot, that's the more likely cause.
