Hello.

My gearbox is shifting very poorly. Specifically, it's almost impossible to get into first gear. I just bled the clutch slave cylinder, and I also changed the gearbox oil to 75W90 full synthetic from Castrol (there was no noticeable wear in the old oil), which did improve things somewhat, but it's still far from good. The cable pulls are also smooth, and it doesn't make a big difference whether the oil is warm or cold icon_sad.gif.
The funny thing is, when I installed the transmission four weeks ago, it shifted like butter. icon_exclaim.gif I've never experienced such a smooth/soft-shifting transmission in a car before, but over the last three weeks and 4000 km, it's been steadily getting worse. I have to say that the engine and transmission apparently sat idle for 2 years before I installed them in my Golf (but that shouldn't make a difference).

Should I add some Slick 50 or something similar now, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Best regards from Jan.

Hello,

Besides checking the cable adjustment, I would also make sure that the engine and transmission are still securely fastened to the frame. With a winter car, I almost lost the transmission while driving... it was almost going to fall off the road along with the engine because one engine mounting bolt was missing and another was loose. It could also be shifted quite modestly... icon_lol.gif

Best regards, Rainer.

The shaving screw 020 301 241 H is only available in gearboxes with shift rods (specifically, the 020 gearboxes).

And Jan's car had a cable-operated gearbox! (02A gearbox) ASD, CTN, CYP.

Jan, try this:

Attached to the gearbox is the mechanism where the two cable assemblies connect.

The gear selector moves a type of bracket (which moves up and down), within which a plastic slider for engaging the gears slides (back and forth).

The sled is often dirty or dry.

Sure, here's the translation:

**Please make it really bold (including from the bottom).**

I can provide the pictures later tonight.

Or how about this one first:

Hello Jan,

At the end of the cable mechanism, there is a nut with a size of 13 mm. If it's loose,
The left-to-right movement of the gear lever is not being properly transmitted to the gearbox. Know two.
Cases of Golf III cars with a 1Z engine where the nut gradually loosened.

Best regards.

Helmut.

@ Helmut

Do you mean the attachment of the SELECTOR to the mechanism?

That means you're not quite hitting the center of the lane, but slightly to the side.

The rubber bushing at the end of the icon_evil.gif gear cable is cracked, but it's not available as a separate part.

Hello dieselmartin,

That's the exact mounting point - it fits into a long slot.

Best regards from Helmut.

Helmut, you were absolutely right. Was the mother icon_razz.gif
It's very difficult to see from above, and I had tightened them again when I installed the engine, but they're not properly engaged anymore. And I was already dreading the thought of having to get a new transmission, and now I have to deal with that too.

Really, thank you very much for the tip icon_exclaim.gif.

Regards,
Jan.
