Hello,

My God, I'm really annoyed by the blatant eagerness of some people to comment on technical matters, even though they understand very little or nothing about them in detail. When they do this - to put it militarily - "without regard for consequences" and encourage unsuspecting readers to take risks that these poor people can't possibly foresee, then I get really frustrated.

Regarding the fact that I am likely the author of several specialized articles being referred to, I would like to say the following:

It's not about fulfilling a need to communicate.

If I notice that certain topics in the forum consistently generate questions, I will eventually write an article about them - to the extent that I, as an untrained hobbyist (with a correspondingly non-academic level of knowledge), feel capable of doing so, and because none of the "real professionals" are doing it.
The latter would definitely be the better option for me, and it would even save me some work.

You (the real professionals) are hereby (again) cordially invited to correct at least my articles, or, as a replacement for my writings, to write something completely original yourselves icon_exclaim.gif.

I completely agree. So far, the gentleman in question has unfortunately not provided any suggestions on how Hans Baldauf can solve his problem. It might be due to a lack of technical knowledge.

It's always easier to point fingers and criticize than to actually make things better.

If anyone feels compelled to write an article on a particular topic:
- Apply to join the authors group (if you haven't already).
- Write an article.
It can't get any simpler than this, right?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Ulf,

I highly doubt that you and your articles or contributions are what's being referred to.
And even if that were the case, it doesn't really matter. Your articles and contributions have certainly helped me a lot. Keep up the good work! icon_biggrin.gif

VSome people just have that 'Laumeier' attitude...

Keep it up!

arne,
Unfortunately, they still lack the necessary expertise to write articles like that.

@ulf, rainer, michaelII and all the other diligent posters and article writers!!!

'I found Diesel Gustav's comments to be a bit too rude! If he knows so much better, he should share his knowledge instead of leaving others who need help standing in the rain and dismissing other tips that might lead to a solution or are at least worth trying. When I look through technical articles, I don't see anything from this person. And I remember many unresolved issues from the past, often with abrupt and arrogant dismissals like in the post mentioned above!'
I believe that your articles are fine, and even if they might seem somewhat amateurish to a professional, they can still lead to success! Keep up the good work, and don't let such arrogant comments discourage you!

For my part, I learned a lot from these articles and was able to solve some tricky problems to my satisfaction. Whether that was 100% professional or 100% amateur doesn't matter to me. What matters is that the car definitely ran better afterwards. And that's all that counts!

@diesel gustav
I know that you will certainly not be able to resist adding another great comment. But I don't care! Your arrogance and stalling tactics annoy me! The motto 'I know what it is, but I won't tell you stupid people' makes me sick! icon_evil.gif

a very angry Jörg.

Join us:

Ulf Rainer and MichaelII..., I think it's really great that someone is sacrificing their free time to help other anonymous people. The fact that not every last bit of technical knowledge is hammered in speaks volumes about this forum for me. Explaining vehicle troubleshooting in a way that normal people can understand is a valuable contribution. There's certainly much more that could be known, but it's often not necessary to be effective.
I think "KEEP GOING LIKE THIS, PLEASE!"

He should just do a better job; it can't hurt!

Matthias.

Hmm, I know a guy like that too ('expert,' my cousin). He's studying something related to automotive technology and thinks he knows everything, giving advice on things you wouldn't even dream of.

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,

I believe that comparison (if I understand it correctly) is not appropriate when referring to Gustav. In my opinion, whenever he provides specific assistance, it has always been logical and practical so far.

When he provides specific assistance, it has always made sense to me so far, and it also seems practical.

That's probably the case! But far too often, it only scratched the surface with a premature ending. That likely didn't help or liberate anyone properly.

Yeah, I know. I wanted to add that too, but I couldn't find the right words.

Hi!
How about this topic also being locked with a padlock?
I think it's (almost) all been said now, or not? icon_confused.gif

Hi,

I think we shouldn't "ban" Gustav (not even symbolically, since as a moderator he can unlock threads again).
If no one writes anything anymore, the thread will eventually move down and make room for new icon_wink.gif.

Hey fellow mechanics,

Just a gentle suggestion: wouldn't it be time to bury the hatchet?
Now you've all had a chance to vent, and it should be time to move on from this.

@diesel.gustav

I think your reaction is along the lines of what I expected. However, I had imagined it would be even more emphatic! I partially agree with you; working responsibly and with high quality requires a lot of time. As far as I'm concerned, I gladly invest that time. I've learned a lot here, and I've been able to pass on what I've learned and apply it myself. Time isn't something I focus on too closely in those situations.
What disappointed me a little was your comment.
'But I'm not begging for understanding, and if a moderator wants to lock this thread right now with a padlock, that's fine too. Then that would be my last post.'

Why again? Must everyone agree with you?

For example, look at Ulf; even with the patience of an angel, he has already discussed certain topics a hundred times, and always addresses them in a factually and technically correct manner.

You certainly possess a vast amount of knowledge, which you've sometimes demonstrated in your posts. You've likely helped many people. However, why must a question be formulated to perfectly match your technical level? This forum is primarily frequented by people who do this as a hobby to get their car running for the next week, or by people who have heard something from professionals and don't want to believe it! One can't expect 100% accuracy, and certainly not react impatiently!

'Do you know what I would like? I wish you would answer specific questions thoroughly, even if they aren't phrased with perfect technical precision according to your level of expertise. Often, the answers only scratched the surface, and the rest had to be guessed. For my part, I found some of your contributions very interesting and informative. I learned quite a bit about direct injection pumps from them. It would be really great to read more in-depth content from you, perhaps even in the form of technical articles!'

Of course, you are free to do that. No one is forced to write here.
You might want to tone down your cheeky and ambiguous comments a bit.

Regarding the keyword "begging," no one here is begging you to continue writing.
I tend to be quite direct in expressing my opinions, so that everyone knows exactly where they stand with me.
In short: if you don't like it here and you only see frustration from unproductive comments instead of genuine suggestions for improvement, I suggest you create your own forum.
Do we understand each other?
