Hello fellow enthusiasts,
The voltage indicator in the instrument cluster of my A4 Avant 8D / B5 is constantly showing too high a voltage. While driving, it should display between 13.8 and, let's say, 15 volts. In reality, the indicator's scale (16V max) is no longer sufficient, and the needle is completely at the maximum.
'Of course, I immediately panicked and checked the voltage. With the ignition on, it's 12.5 volts, and with the engine running, it's about 14.5 volts. That stupid voltage meter has been showing about 2-2.5 volts too high for some time now. My question is, is there anything that can be adjusted via software, or do I have to disassemble my instrument cluster to get the display to show the correct values?'
I wasn't sure if this thread is off-topic, so please move it if necessary.

One more thing to check would be the voltage regulator (stabilizer) in the speedometer. My guess is that if it's supplying the wrong voltage, the display will be inaccurate.

Is the fuel gauge still accurate, or is it showing unrealistic values?

Hello,
All other indicators are working correctly. It's only the voltage gauge that's malfunctioning.

Okay, then the voltage regulator on the combination unit is likely the problem. Where is the voltage being measured? There might be something wrong there.

Hey fellow mechanics,
If my wife lets me, I might go for a swim later.
