Hello,
I'm getting a new AAT (automatic air conditioning) from a vehicle that was involved in an accident.
This is a "3rd generation" AAT --> it was connected to a control unit "0 281 001 253".
(but the control unit is not included).
Now, I want to run this engine with my "2nd generation" engine control unit, model number "0 281 001 128".
Is that possible?
Because:
I've heard that in the "3rd generation" fuel injection pumps, the slider position is no longer simply reported back via a potentiometer (G99).
but rather electronically (it is then referred to as "Position sensor for control slide (G149)").
Now, the question is whether my control unit can handle it.
see also here ...
Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.

Hello Dirk,
The old STG probably still has those nasty 257's latch EPROM's.
The newer one already has 'standard' 512-unit components (its internal structure is roughly similar to an MSA12).
I once tried to run an old AAT with a new control unit.
Fortunately, nothing died.
However, it didn't work either. The entire problem was then...
but it was not pursued further, as it was easier to modify the existing STG.
Best regards, Rudi.

It couldn't have worked because the pin configuration is different --> see the link above...
But that's not really what my question was about...

@diesel.gustav:
Hey, that's a reasonable statement, thanks!
And couldn't one install inductive feedback into an old pump (or vice versa?)??
Should I send you the files through a different method if you're unable to download them?

Hi Dirk,
At the time, I didn't have those lists, and (apart from the signaling system controller),...
Are the differences significant enough to be implemented in software?
Gustav can tell you whether the pump replacement is mechanically possible on an HDK.
probably says; but - why don't you just swap the control unit (and the wiring harness)?
Even the modifications to the existing wiring harness should be feasible with relatively little effort.
replace (two lines and possibly a few connectors - HDK?! - with others).
Best regards, Rudi.

Because I won't be receiving a 3rd generation control unit with the new engine...
(but it is also in my first post... )
Furthermore, what are you doing about the immobilizer (WFS) and some other modifications?
(Is an external WFS control unit and a transponder reading head required in the ignition switch?)

Hi Dirk,
ok, whoever can read...
You can usually find TDI engine control units (ECUs) on eBay for around 100 EUR.
WFS: In T3/T4 conversion areas, the wiring harness is being tampered with somewhere along its length.
(complete with the donor key) and never touched again.
You can also find these items on eBay (I bought a WFS-STG with a reading spool there).
(Paid 15 EUR for the key).
If you're lucky, you might occasionally find a newer TCU (Transmission Control Unit) without the WFS (Wireless Function System).
(hacked or prototype ECUs).
Best regards, Rudi.

diesel.gustav wrote: | Hello Dirk C4,
Take a look at the pumps on the engines if you can.
The older "Potipumpe" has the fuel return line pointing straight upwards from the actuator cover.
The newer "HDK pump" has the return flow oriented horizontally towards the back. This is a clear way to distinguish it from other models.
|
and here's another example to illustrate:
Pump "old":
Bosch: 0460 415 988
VAG: 046 130 108 A
Pump "new":
Bosch: 0460 415 989
VAG: 046 130 108 G
