Hello guys,
Now that I assume my fuel injection pump is defective, the question is: Should I buy a new one or have it refurbished? (Mileage is approximately 160,000 km).
"Has anyone had experience with refurbished pumps, or does anyone know a good repair shop? What kind of costs should I expect?"
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

I cannot provide you with instructions for the static adjustment of the VP44. I don't have any documentation or values related to it.
Wenn deine Pumpe offensichtlich fördert, wie du im letzten Thread geschrieben hast, kann die doch nun nicht durch Verdrehen des Riemenrades defekt sein. Why not?
Bitte gib mir den Text, den du übersetzt haben möchtest.
Best regards!

You can easily find replacement VP44 injectors on eBay!
Only the VP37 that I need is not available there!
Regards,
Manuel.

@Diesel Rudi:
"I have no idea, but it seems to be the only option I can see right now. I've been trying a few things today, and I checked again to see if the timing belt might have jumped a tooth. So, I locked the crankshaft, locked the injection pump, and the camshafts are also in the correct position. I tried starting it a few more times today, but nothing works. Now, I also have an error code in the diagnostic memory: "Quantity control valve defective." It won't clear. Also today, I removed one of the fuel lines and tried to start it. Diesel fuel is coming out, but the pressure seems very low. What are the symptoms of a defective injection pump (besides the engine not starting)? Is there a way to test it (maybe even when it's removed)? Or can any Bosch service center do that?"
I checked on E-XXX, and there are some there, but with the wrong part number. I actually need 059130106B. Can I use a different one? Like, the one from the 180 HP model? Or are they very different?
Regards,
AL

Hi Altono,
I somehow don't believe the pump is defective (unless it has run dry).
Okay, if I understand correctly, the initial error message was related to communication with the ESP. Now you're getting a message that the mass airflow sensor is defective? Please double-check all the cables and connectors again. The magnetic valve for the mass airflow sensor is located in the middle between the fuel injection lines of the ESP. You mentioned that you loosened the fuel injection lines. Did you disconnect them from the ESP or from the injectors?

@marco:
"Initially, there was an error message that couldn't be cleared, even after several attempts. Eventually, I was able to delete it, and it hasn't reappeared since. However, yesterday, a new error message appeared: "Quantity adjuster defective," and I can't seem to clear it either. I've checked all the connectors, and they appear to be fine. What's strange is that my navigation system (RNSE) is now asking for a PIN every time I start the car or turn on the ignition, even though the battery is fully charged. Could there be an error on the CAN bus? I've already checked all the fuses, and they're all fine. There's also no error message stored in the instrument cluster (related to the CAN bus)."
Perhaps I damaged the pump when I tried to start the car after replacing the camshaft, without bleeding the system first. As I said, the car also had poor performance after the modification. Or do fuel pumps just fail without any warning?
I have no idea what's going on.
Greetings.
AL

"I did some more searching today and found another injector for the 2.5 TDI engine at home. I attached it to a fuel line (not the return line) and tried to start the engine. It appears that no diesel is coming out. So, it's probably due to insufficient fuel pressure?"
I contacted Bosch, and they suggested that I send the pump to them for testing.

AL

Hello,
If the quantity sensor in the VP44 fuel injection pump cannot be accessed (for whatever reason), the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) cannot build up pressure. When I look at these errors, including the latest one from your navigation system, I find it all a bit strange.

I've now sent the pump to Bosch for testing. Let's see what the results are.

Okay, I just received some great news from Bosch.
"The fuel quantity meter has corroded, causing fuel to leak where it shouldn't and damaging the control unit. Repair is not economically feasible! The new price is €1280 + VAT. Now I need to find a replacement pump. Does anyone know if the pumps from other V6 TDI engines are compatible? I found some on E-BAXX, but the part numbers are incorrect. I actually need part number 059130106B. What other part numbers could be compatible? Or does anyone know where I can find a cheap used one?!"

hello altonno,
I had the same problem. One day, the car became very difficult to start, it took a long time to crank, and after two days, it wouldn't start at all.
I took the pump to a specialized Bosch service center that has a VP44 test bench.
and he completely removed it and re-sealed it.
It has been running smoothly for a year now.

I sent my http://www.brenner-gmbh.com/home/html/diesel.html diesel injection pump to Brenner. They have a test bench and the necessary testing equipment. They disassembled my pump and found that the flow control element had corroded inside the housing, and that, as described above, the control unit is broken. Therefore, it is no longer worth repairing it. The repair costs would almost exceed the new price.
They seem to be competent guys. And they're also fast. I sent the pump on Wednesday afternoon and received the diagnosis on Friday. The inspection and error diagnosis cost 75 euros, and a test report is included.
But now I'm still facing the problem of where to get a replacement??? 1300 euros for the new part is quite a lot for me as a student...

AL

A VP44 does not have a quantity adjustment device.

@ Gremlin :
So, literally, the Bosch service technician meant that the solenoid valve was clogged.
And why doesn't the pump have a flow meter? In my error memory, the error code was "flow meter defective."
