Hello,
das ist meiner Meinung nach der haltbarste Turbodieselmotor, den VW jemals verbaut hat. Good luck with that!
Follow Rainer's advice and buy a repair manual; it will explain everything in detail. In addition to the advice given there, I recommend simply setting the crankshaft to Top Dead Center (TDC) and marking the positions of the timing belt pulley and the camshaft pulley. Then, you can remove the old timing belt and install the new one in this position without having to adjust anything afterward. The timing belt tension is correct when you can no longer rotate the timing belt between the timing belt pulley and the camshaft pulley by 90 degrees using your thumb, middle finger, and index finger.

"People will laugh at that..." Maybe with the PD-TDI engines. But with those older WK engines, it might only cost €300, and certainly less at an independent workshop. But I only go to a workshop out of principle to have tires mounted – that's enough to cause trouble."
