@ Bertil
However, you can't blame everything on the industry. If politicians create absurd laws that constantly push the limits of what's technically feasible for mass production, problems are inevitable. There are also enough car manufacturers who only sell a portion of their model range in countries with such regulations (e.g., all Japanese brands), or who don't sell any cars in those countries at all.
For everyone else, the manufacturers do what is required, and the customer pays.
Who notices that our cars consume 15-20% more fuel than comparable vehicles without this massive effort for exhaust emissions? In the future, this will also apply to diesel vehicles with filters!
I'm annoyed because, in addition to vehicle taxes, eco taxes, VAT, and mineral oil taxes, the political situation is causing these costs to be increased again.
If an Otto engine, according to EU 4 standards, has around three dozen sensors that monitor each other and report any errors, which inevitably leads to a visit to the workshop (as is the case with the SULEV standard), then the (pressure and leak-monitored) fuel tanks will likely become smaller to prevent people from spending more time in the workshop than at the gas station.
SULEV = Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle.

"That's true, but they still have those problems. I'll allow it for the area of motor electronics, although there are other ways to do it. But in other areas (central locking, electric windows, navigation system, etc.), I won't accept it. These are sometimes accessories that the customer is "forced" to buy. Then the failure is even more frustrating for the customer. Many "breakdowns" are not even a problem of the motor electronics or the motor peripherals, but of some (useless) accessory."

As above. I accept this for the area of engine management.

Right, that's why VW resisted the introduction of particulate filters for so long.

Hi Bertil,
Currently, I know of two countermeasures.
1. Polo base model with the engine of your choice.
2. One-of-a-kind item for nostalgia lovers -> click on my link below .
-> At the end of March, things will get serious (after the non-binding delivery date for my Polo): then my Golf will go to the dealer, if no one else wants it by then *sniff*. Gruß Ulf

Well then...
I have to say, I will defend heated seats, heated mirrors, and air conditioning with all my might... once you get used to them.
'Good luck! So far, the problem has only been a mechanical defect (a worn ball joint in the steering linkage, causing play).'
However, I specifically chose an Octavia with a VP-TDI engine because it has been in production for years, so there shouldn't be any 'childhood diseases' or common problems.
Thinking about how much stress a simple antenna cable can cause...

Hi Ralf,
People's opinions on comfort features likely stem from their individual experiences.
A faulty air conditioning system almost set a Peugeot 205 GTI on fire.
After that, I threw away the remaining parts, and while I was at it, I replaced the standard elFH components with manual ones, and then I sold everything to grateful 205 drivers as "base models."
While I hadn't yet had a completely negative experience with elFH, what I later read online ( something like that and similar gems) confirmed to me that I am always right when I prioritize cars for comfort-loving individuals.
Because I don't want to risk a crash, especially since quite a few people have already tried that approach.
Therefore, I would be more inclined to accept it if someone were to install a ZV (central locking system) and elFH (electric folding mirrors) in a naked car (or try to talk me into it when ordering) . Gruß Ulf

but not really...
When I was still driving my old 'opa-kiste' (grandpa's old car), I already wanted to retrofit it with a keyless entry system (it already had central locking). It's simply more practical. Even with full arms, you can still press the button if you're holding the keys in your hand, and you can also pull the handle somehow... but fumbling with the damn key and turning it in the lock... ugh...
Let's see how long it lasts...
