Hello everyone,
I have a B4 model from 1995. It had an engine failure at 197,000 kilometers; the first cylinder was damaged. I then received a replacement engine (ATM) including a turbocharger, had the mass airflow sensor replaced, and the diesel pump was recalibrated. Currently, the car has 212,000 kilometers on the odometer.
'My problem is that despite the ATM (Automatic Transmission Module), it still has intermittent issues. These range from very slight ones, like momentarily lifting off the gas when going downhill to maintain speed, to more noticeable jolts that have been occurring sporadically for about 100,000 km. Furthermore, during normal highway driving, between 120 and 190 km/h, there are significant, jarring hesitations. It feels like a donkey is pulling the car. All of this is accompanied by a lot of smoke coming from the exhaust, which is especially noticeable at night. The car has been to both a dealership and a Bosch service center. They measured all the parameters and read the error codes, but without any success. The relay 219 was also replaced, and the knock sensor test was performed at NHG, which showed it was working correctly. The result is that everything remains the same. In addition, the fuel consumption has been slowly increasing for about 5000 km. It's been a gradual increase, but I'm now at about 7.8 liters, calculated manually without the MFA (Multi-Function Display). In the past, it was around 5.5 liters.'
Given all of this, I'm quite at a loss, so I'm asking if you have any other ideas about it. The Bosch service suggested continuing to drive and monitor the situation.
Thank you in advance.
Dirk.

Hi,
If it's a 1Z model (I'm unfortunately not familiar with the Z1 model), try using the search function (search for "rucken 1Z" -- search for all words... be careful, there's a risk of finding irrelevant results). You're definitely not alone.
You can also try searching for "Pumpenruckeln 1Z". Gruß Bertil

When I turned the steering wheel sharply while the engine was running, it didn't produce any smoke... At least, mine didn't.
What is relay 219?
Is the error memory really empty?
Was war denn am 1. Cylinder broken?
So wie ich das hier rauslese, bestand das Problem auch schon mit dem 1. Engine!?
I'm thinking it might be related to the power supply or the control unit. Because if it were a problem with the pump itself, there would be error messages.

White-gray or black?
Timing belt gear (possibly causing occasional starting problems?) or a stuck AGR valve?
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Dirk,
The problem with the engine misfire on my B4 (MKB 1/Z) has been resolved after I bled the diesel filter. Additionally, I now fill up the tank every 1000 km (when it was full before). Previously, I would drive about 1200 km before refueling. It's possible that air was getting into the fuel line and filter while driving on curves. Since then, the misfire has been completely eliminated.
Good luck!
Marco.

@Marco
How do you bleed the diesel filter? I always assumed that our systems (I also have a B4 TDI) bleed themselves. I know how to drain water, but how do you bleed it?
Make me smarter.
Regards,
Hermann.
