Hello, I've heard about water-alcohol injection (see link) several times, which is intended to cool the fuel mixture being injected. My question is, does anyone have experience with this or what do you think about it? Of course, on the manufacturer websites (as well as on chip tuning websites), there are only advantages listed and nothing about risks. I would therefore especially appreciate answers from those of you who are technically experienced icon_biggrin.gif.

Okay, that sounds like another variation of this unusual NOS injection system (laughing gas). Sure, it will probably provide some extra power, but I wouldn't recommend it for the longevity of your engine. Are you sure that's intended for diesel engines? I ask because a diesel engine doesn't inject a fuel mixture, it only injects diesel. I think you read about it on their website, right?
Furthermore, it's likely that this will be just as strictly regulated as the NOS issue.

Could you perhaps check if you can still post the link?
I would still like to take a look at the page sometime.

It seems like the discussion is mainly focused on gasoline engines, and it's only mentioned at the very bottom that this also applies to diesel engines. *mh (but I haven't really read through it closely...)*
My 'tuner' also talked about it too, but he also said that it's not suitable for road use, especially if you 'love' your car.

Okay, and did he also mention why it's not a problem if you love your car? Where exactly are the increased stresses on the engine?

@tomas, yes, I think it's similar to a NOS system, but the system is actually intended to work with diesel as well. Here it is again:

I've read it through, and I think the increased load is likely purely mechanical in nature. By that, I mean that...
The components of a TDI engine simply aren't designed for that level of performance.
Without modifications to the crankshaft mechanism or other components, the engine is likely to fail sooner rather than later (more likely sooner).
Just look at what VW Motorsport did to the 204 hp AFN engine.

But something else. I imagine it this way: If you lower the air temperature in this manner and get more oxygen into the combustion chambers, it essentially has the same effect as increasing the turbocharger pressure. It shouldn't actually provide any extra power in that sense. I always thought that you need more diesel fuel to achieve higher performance, not just more air.
It's good that the temperature is naturally decreasing, but the nitrous oxide system also injects fuel, and it does so quite generously.

If you inquire with people who have such systems, they are usually either those who completely disassemble and rebuild the engine every year, or those who want to send these systems to the moon because their engine has failed. icon_smile.gif

I actually stumbled upon your forum by chance (through my website statistics). It's great, I like it.
Regarding water injection:
We 'Syclone/Typhoon' enthusiasts often deal with engine knocking, especially when using modified engines or higher boost pressures. Water/alcohol injection helps to lower the combustion temperature and thus prevent knocking. For gasoline engines, including turbocharged ones, a timing of 0 degrees Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) is ideal, and we definitely don't want the fuel-air mixture to spontaneously ignite. There are essentially two approaches for using water/alcohol injection:
1. Safety.
2. More performance.
Most people use a water-methanol injection system to prevent the engine from running too lean. The Sy Ty models originally have 285 horsepower, and it's relatively safe to increase that to around 350/360 horsepower with a chip tune, so you should definitely keep an eye on the knock levels.
Regarding diesel engines, you rely on self-ignition and don't experience the same extreme problems we do with our turbocharged V6s.
I once had a Domröse 324d, back when almost no one was thinking about diesel tuning, and those 170 horsepower diesels were really fun to drive!
During the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, there were tests with water/alcohol-based diesel fuel, but the results didn't quite meet expectations or desired outcomes.
Here's the translation:

'What I hear from others is that 'chipping' and making small optimizations to the mass airflow sensor can really make a difference, and PD Diesels still have a lot of potential in that area. Of course, you can break anything if you drive recklessly – even without a chip or using water/alcohol additives.'
If anyone's interested, I know Michael from Beetleclinic in Berlin quite well (he also has a Syclone). Micha has a chipped A6 2.5 TDI; it really flies and has impressive torque, and I wonder how the Tiptronic transmission handles it.
