Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of installing a V6 TDI engine (engine code: AFB) in my boat. If only I had known what a nightmare this would be!
My problem is that I need to acquire all the missing parts gradually. A large auction house makes it possible to do this cost-effectively...
Regarding the engine, which came from a total loss (supposedly a 2000 Passat), the wiring harness with the control unit was included. But everything else was missing. I recently purchased a combination instrument, and now I need to acquire the key with the sensor. These are relatively inexpensive to get from VW, but you need the VIN to program them. However, I don't have the VIN because the vehicle no longer exists.
Can I find the VIN based on the engine number? If so, where (VW is always very hesitant)? Or can I order new keys for the combination instrument and reprogram the engine control unit? Can I read the VIN from the combination instrument? Does it need to be installed?
Does anyone have wiring diagrams for this problem (engine control unit <-> combination instrument <-> sensor <-> OBD connector)?
Perhaps there are also simpler solutions. I can't even get to VW easily with my boat...
I would be very grateful for any small advice. I'm starting to lose interest...

This is getting a bit complicated...
If you had a properly programmed key, it would be very simple.
First, you need to find out which version of the immobilizer the instrument cluster has (IMMO-2 or IMMO-3). Then, you can check the following website: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/index.html for more information.
IMMO-2 would be obviously better for you.
However, you can also waterproof the instrument cluster during this opportunity, modify the speedometer to display knots, and install the odometer accordingly. If you get a key (which can be any key with the correct transponder series, e.g., a broken or accident car), install the transponder in the key, and add the reading coil... then you'll have the immobilizer on the boat. I think this is also the plan, isn't it?
But don't give up, AFB will definitely make good progress ;-)

Why so private? I'm also interested! Or is it so secretive that you have to discuss it in private? |

So, still a problem?
Even if it's a lot, it would mean a learning opportunity for some of us, including myself. |

Hi!
It's very dangerous to talk about this in detail without proper explanation.
I would love to help, but not like that.
Best regards, |

Hi,
the learning effect could be greater than desired. There are still more reasons why one cannot have a tax device but a key.
I wouldn't post such a guide if I could. Gruß Christian

Okay, here's the translation, keeping the HTML/BBCode tags and URLs intact:
Exactly that's what I mean, when someone gets it wrong.

Okay, well unfortunately there's no key. But as I could already read, there's always some way. It would be great if everything would work as discussed in this forum. Thanks for your good tips. I hope CorradoTDI will also provide further support... Also, thank you again for the wiring diagrams. A real relief.
