Hello,

In the GF-Forum (click -> Page 3), I once asked about current experiences with VAG's goodwill policy or price reductions.
Some answers have already come in, but it doesn't seem to be that simple (always) -> only in exchange, etc. icon_eek.gif

Are there any similar (or other) experiences available here?

By the way, a colleague of mine will soon need a replacement mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) for his Octavia, which has an 81 kW engine.
Are there any updates or information available regarding the process at Skoda?
I'm not yet ready to believe that it will happen "exactly" the same way as it did with VW; I'm still hesitant about this bridge.
Gruß Ulf

Hi Ulf,

Okay, I'm going to advocate for VW here. If it were a VW, call 0800 8655792436 (0800 Volkswagen). They're quite knowledgeable now, and they're my first point of contact. The warranty is valid worldwide for all vehicles from the VAG Group, and even better, it covers all engines within the group (like the 150 TDI VW Marine engine). I was just at the "boot" in Düsseldorf and inquired about it... I want that engine, and I met a truly incredibly competent VW employee there.

Okay, I know that it works if you make a clarifying phone call to that number while you're at the car dealership. In our case, the dealer didn't know anything, so I had them call the number, and everything worked out.

I heard from my acquaintances (a Mercedes warehouse manager).
"Many Audi drivers buy their mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors) from Mercedes-Benz dealerships because they are supposedly the same and may even offer slightly more power."
It should resonate for a longer time!
It costs about 35 euros.

So, if mine ever breaks down, I'm going to Mercedes-Benz!

@steffarn

There's one from DC that fits in our 1.9 TDI. However, as you can read in other threads here, the vehicle has slightly less power due to the different tuning. I can confirm these observations. But the part doesn't cost 35€; it's closer to 70€, including VAT.

That's not to say that there might not be another suitable and better-suited product from DC that could provide the effects you're describing, and that is also available at that amazing price. Maybe you could ask your acquaintances for the part number. I would be very interested.

Hello, I bought a new LMM (lambda sensor) from VW last week.

Costs €75 plus VAT = approximately €88.

Interestingly, the "x" after the part number (which usually indicates a replacement part) was hand-painted onto the box with a pen. So, this is a normal, new replacement part.

I suspect that the fact that they are now declared as replacement parts has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that they can't explain why they suddenly became so cheap! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

@ kombi blue

Did you buy this thing based on a hunch, or because of specific problems you were trying to solve?
Is that a Pierburg?

For 88 EUR, you could almost afford to keep one in stock icon_smile.gif.

My 1Z engine starts misfiring at 3000 RPM due to air mass issues. Will a new mass airflow sensor (MAF) fix this?

To my knowledge, this "goodwill" action from VW applies to all mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors).

Wow! I wasn't aware of that! I thought it was only about the Bosch HFM5! Have you already asked your local dealer about the price?

Is that a Pierburg?

For 88 EUR, you could almost afford to keep one in stock icon_smile.gif.

My 1Z engine starts misfiring at 3000 RPM due to air mass issues. Will a new mass airflow sensor (MAF) fix this?

m;

@Dieselmartin

I had been experiencing specific performance issues (the maximum airflow was only 700mg per stroke) since October. However, I then received a notification that the mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors) would become cheaper, so I waited that long.
The new one has approximately 1000 mg of air mass per puff.

And NO, this is not the Pierburg (which is only available from DC), it's the completely normal one from Bosch!!! Just like the one that was originally in it!! icon_biggrin.gif
Since the Pierburg doesn't quite match the values (it's weaker in the lower RPM range icon_biggrin.gif), I wanted the "correct" one.

And YES, the VW recall affects ALL MAF sensors (to the best of my knowledge).
Just go to the service center and ask if they have any "exchange" mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors) available. Because only the exchange units are that cheap!

Funny.

The Golf 3 (also known as the Golf Mk3) was still available in 1998 (as a station wagon) and also with the AFN engine.

Did the G3-AFN engine also have a BOSCH fuel injector (perhaps from the beginning), or were there also Pierburg-AFN and BOSCH-AFN fuel injectors?

The 1997 G3-AHU also had the Pierburg component (and the AHU engine was also available in the Passat).

Now I'm totally confused...

Hello,
I myself own a 1.9 TDI-AFN engine, 110 horsepower, from 4/97, equipped with a Pierburg mass airflow sensor. Ulf described this in his expert article (the exact one I'm referring to).
Do these grace periods or exchange rules also apply to these older vehicles?
Bye.
Max.

There's a Pierburg AFN. See the 'Ulf's Purist Tractor.'

Hello, so I can only speak about the Passat 3B model here:

Initially, this model also came with a Pierburg mass airflow sensor (MAF), BUT: This MAF is permanently integrated into the pipe. While Bosch MAFs are always supplied with a pipe by VW, they can be detached from the pipe. And only the sensor itself is manufactured by Bosch!

And the Pierburg, because everyone here considers it a replacement for the Bosch, is just as much of a disposable item as the Bosch one.

And that's why VW-Pierburg mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors) cannot be replaced with those from DC.

I hope this is understandable! icon_cool.gif

This is my current understanding, and it only applies to the Passat 3B model.

@ kombi

Sure, I know those parts aren't interchangeable. I just wanted to know if it's possible to determine which Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor (Pierburg or BOSCH) was used based on the engine code (AFN), since both MAF sensors are used in the AFN engine.

I'm going to look for a cheap Pierburg part next.

As mentioned above:

For the Passat 3B (with the AFN engine!), Pierburg initially supplied the mass airflow sensors (MAF sensors), but later Bosch became the supplier.
