Hello everyone in the forum.

The ventilation system on my Passat 3B, manufactured in 1999, is no longer working properly.

When the inside of the windshield is fogged up, and I direct the airflow from the Climatronic system towards the windshield, only the passenger side becomes defogged (or defrosted).

I bought the car used from the dealer with a warranty.

I already went to the dealer about that. They connected the car to the diagnostic tool and, after the diagnosis (no error found), they believed that the problem with my car was either a detached ventilation hose or a faulty actuator motor.

To access the ventilation hose or the control motor, it is definitely necessary to completely remove the dashboard.

Here comes the bombshell:

If the hose has detached, there is no warranty, and you will be responsible for the cost.
If it is related to the actuator motor => warranty.

Before I take the risk of taking the machine to the workshop, I wonder if there might be another explanation for the problem, or if a reliable diagnosis can be made beforehand in some way (without disassembling the board).

HI,

I think someone is trying to take advantage of you. If a servo motor is broken, it will not move the valve sufficiently, and the control unit will almost certainly detect this and display a message indicating that the motor is faulty.

Since there are no apparent errors, the issue with the hose is more likely... but perhaps something is blocked, or maybe not enough air is getting through overall.

How is your pollen filter doing, for example?

Otherwise, I think: If something didn't work from the beginning, then it's covered by the warranty, even if something got clogged or detached.

Best regards,

Jan.

Good evening!

Here comes the bombshell:

If the hose has detached, there is no warranty, and you will be responsible for the cost.
If it is about the actuator => warranty

That's irrelevant! In my opinion, both problems constitute a defect.

For more information about defects and the relevant standards, you may be able to find some useful information from our favorite thread of the past few weeks (thanks to schorni icon_twisted.gif).
