Crack in windshield, what now?

Hello forum.

Yesterday, I noticed a crack in the lower left corner of my windshield. As I said, it starts from the left corner and is approximately 50 to 70 mm long. Only the outer layer of glass is affected.
What would you do? As far as I understand, can this [plant/animal/situation] no longer be saved? Should we just keep going until it grows bigger?
What is the cost of a windshield replacement including installation? Does anyone know of a good and affordable company in the Munich area?

Finding something affordable in the "M" area is likely difficult; with a budget of €400-€600 without including utilities, you'll probably be on the higher end of the price range.

I cancelled my health insurance years ago and used the money I saved to buy a high-quality cutting machine.



It was bought for DM 800 back then, and it has already paid for itself many times over.

The windshield replacement on my last T4 cost me €95 and took 2 hours of labor.

Is this a standard multi-tool with a special attachment, or is it a dedicated device designed solely for this purpose?
I have a multi-tool like that. You would only need the attachment for it.

The best way for me to separate them is using twisted golden (brass) wire.
It's inexpensive, doesn't scratch glass, won't break (knives are more expensive and fragile), and doesn't require electricity.
It needs an assistant, but you'll definitely need one to lift the disc anyway, unless it's a Fiat 500.

It got to me too.
First, a rock impact within the visible range.
Now I have another crack that starts from the bottom left and extends towards the center of the glass.

I'll continue as I am for now. Because the crack doesn't seem to be getting any bigger.
Most likely, a new windshield will be needed by the next scheduled inspection (TÜV).
Unfortunately, I don't have the expertise to replace the windshield myself.
Whether I am practically capable of doing it, I cannot say due to a lack of experience.

Let us cast a curse upon those evil, deeply embedded stones.

However, my record has generally seen its best days.
Driving 120,000 kilometers on the highway has definitely left some marks.
Actually, she looks like she's been sandblasted.

What is the general opinion of the "cheap" items offered on eBay?

Unfortunately, this applies to many workshops as well. That's why I prefer to do it myself, and I take my time doing it.

After replacing the windshield, there was 5 cm of water on the driver's side, the trim is dirty, and the dashboard is dirty.

Next time, then no more cheapskate behavior... self-inflicted.
