Hello everyone!
The clutch on my GIV 200 has been failing more and more frequently lately.
The car has only 40,000 kilometers on the odometer, and I first noticed in November that the clutch was slipping.
I have spoken with VW, and the situation is very unclear because it is a wear and tear item, and the car is no longer covered by the warranty since December 2003.
It is therefore unclear whether VW will cover the cost of a new clutch or not.
Since I was planning to give the car a bit more power soon, I immediately thought about getting a reinforced clutch.
Which manufacturers offer something like that?
Could couplings from a standard kit possibly be used? (A 150hp TDI? V6, R32 certainly won't handle those high forces, right??)
What is the torque capacity in Nm for the clutches used in the 130/150 PS TDI engines? (Sorry, I couldn't find the information in the database.)
Slippery greeting...

ARL and ASZ engines use the same clutch.
There isn't a stronger one available from VW that would fit; you'll have to look in the motorsport industry.

'150 horsepower might be a good fit, but in that case, you should also replace the dual-mass flywheel.'

"And forget about the V6 clutch; it has less torque than any ASZ or ARL engine!"

Yes, I had already thought about the V6 clutch.
@mersente: But what benefit would a 150HP clutch bring me if it's the same as the one on the 130HP model?
I guess I'll start looking into getting a sports clutch.
I read in this forum that the so-called 'Powerclutch' from Sachs can handle more torque than the original clutches.
I once emailed Sachs and asked them what this clutch is capable of.
Are there any other alternatives?
Regards...

Interessant wäre aber auf jeden Fall, die Ursache für das Durchrutschen zu erfahren (Verschleiß?? Defect??)
I hope you keep us updated.

Yes, I'll go to VW tomorrow and try to clarify the situation.
Perhaps I can get them to make a statement about covering the costs.
I will report...

I know of two G4 TDIs within my circle of acquaintances where the oil seal on the clutch failed. This caused oil to leak in, which in turn caused the clutch to slip. In both cases, it wasn't the clutch itself that was too weak for the chipped TDIs. These were 90s models with aggressive tuning, producing around 125 horsepower.

Hello!
I also find your theory interesting.
But wouldn't the clutch then slip constantly?
It doesn't do that for me. Also, it's not clear what it's related to.
At first, it only slipped when it was cold, but now it occasionally slips even when it's warm.
But putting that aside, I think the clutch won't be able to handle the increased power output in the long run.
Please ask any questions privately; I don't want to start an unwanted discussion about tuning here .
Okay, let's get to work. I didn't manage to look at VW today, I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

Hello!
I spoke with a gentleman from LUK earlier.
He said that LUK could not offer a clutch with a higher clamping pressure.
He also pointed out that the 2-mass flywheel (which was likely installed in all ASZ models from 04/2001 onwards) can also be a major weak point when transmitting high torques.
Is anyone familiar with the maximum torque that this dual-mass flywheel (ZMS) can handle?
Regards...

Well, the LUK clutches aren't exactly top-notch either. Have you contacted Sachs? They have a standard clutch that handles up to 400 Nm, and a sintered metal clutch that handles up to 800 Nm.
Kann die Henning GmbH in Essen (Hr.Claus) empfehlen, die vertreiben günstig orig. Sachs Parts!
But 40,000 km is very low mileage for a clutch; I think the cause lies elsewhere.
However, disassembling the 6-speed gearbox is quite tricky on the Golf 4; it's not something you can just quickly check.
