Hello,

Could it be that the TDI with 110 hp (AFN?? icon_confused.gif) is classified as Euro2? Would the 115 hp PD engine be Euro3, or? What is, or will soon be, the difference in taxes?
I can only find the 110-horsepower engine option for both the Seat Toledo and the Skoda Octavia (used cars). Is there a reason for this?

best regards

Adrian.

Hi.

I believe that the 110 horsepower engine in newer Golf 4 models already meets the Euro 3 emissions standard.

PD engines haven't been around for that long, so many used cars probably don't have them yet.

Furthermore, as the leading brand (compared to Seat and Skoda), Volkswagen naturally receives the new technologies first.
And with that, new childhood illnesses arise, which, with a bit of luck, are resolved until the brand is taken over by other companies (at least partially) icon_twisted.gif.

Hello,

The 115 horsepower engine is still not available in the models mentioned. At Seat, this engine is only offered in the Alhambra, and it is not available at all in Skoda.

Ulf is right; the older models have 110 horsepower and meet Euro 2 standards, while the newer ones have Euro 3 standards. The price difference is currently around 20-30 euros, but it will likely increase soon.

Hi Ulf,

I checked the Seat website, and it states that the diesel engines meet Euro3 standards. However, an old car review only mentioned Euro2. Could a software update potentially resolve this?

What is the maximum RPM of the 110-horsepower engine? For the Seat Toledo, the axle ratio is 3.389. On the Seat website, the gear ratio for the 5th gear is listed as 0.769.
According to the gear calculator, the car would accelerate from 81 to 162 km/h in 5th gear. However, the Seat Toledo is supposed to reach 193 km/h. This would result in an engine speed of 4765 rpm at top speed, which I find hard to believe. For this to be correct, it would need to have 19-inch wheels. Have I overlooked something?

best regards

Adrian.

Hi Michael,

I discovered a tax calculator for all types of vehicles at http://www.kfz-steuer.de/. The difference is about half a tank of fuel. It's not a huge amount, but if you can 'upgrade'... why not?

best regards

Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

The Seat Ibiza also comes with the 110 hp TDI engine (with the engine code ASV), and its top speed is also listed as 193 km/h.

At its maximum speed (210 on the speedometer), the engine is running at approximately 4300-4400 RPM, which isn't excessively high, as the redline starts at 4750. However, I can imagine that the heavier Toledo might have a shorter gear ratio, but the difference probably isn't significant, because the engine loses a noticeable amount of power in that RPM range.

*take a look*

Post28-06-2002, 19:08    Subject: Car Tax Euro 2/3: Rates & Regulations Quote

Hello!

Currently, the vehicle tax for Euro 2 diesel engines is 14.83 EUR per 100 cc.
Currently, the price for Euro 3 diesel vehicles is 13.80 EUR per 100 cc.

Starting January 1, 2004, the tax rates for Euro 2 diesel will be 16.05 EUR.
or 15.44 EUR for Euro 3.

So, maybe start thinking about the future now!

Best regards, D.

Hello,

Well, don't you think that's a bit of nitpicking?
1.9 TDI (not a 5-liter car)
with Euro 2, from 2004: 304 Euros.
With Euro 3, starting in 2004: 293 Euros.
Euro 4 standard from 2004; 293 euros.

I'm not going to bother with such a small difference of 11 euros.
Thinking about the future... when the beloved federal government runs out of money, politicians will inevitably find a way to line their own pockets by increasing some kind of fairytale tax.
It doesn't really matter whether I pay more vehicle tax, mineral oil tax, or VAT on a new car with a better emissions standard; what's important is what I can actually afford from my salary in the end.
Just thinking about it is slowly giving me depression... or maybe aggression.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi,

First of all, I fully agree with Rainer, both regarding the invoice and the conclusions drawn.

And then, to answer the original question:

As you may know, I have a Seat Ibiza (11/01) with a 110 hp engine (ASV), and it's registered according to Euro 3 standards, so there are no concerns on that front.

Best regards,

Jan.

While you're currently discussing taxes, always remember that there are people who are even worse off, some of whom have Euro 1 cars.

From 2001, 438 euros.
From 2005, 519 euros.

... at 1900cc.

But it's probably like with the air conditioning system: if you don't have one, you want one, and if you have one, you want Climatronic (mostly, at least icon_wink.gif).
