Hello,

I want to install seat covers in my Golf (5-door). Unfortunately, even with the adjustable seat height, I can't reach far enough underneath to properly attach the elastic straps, so I want to remove the seats.

In my old Golf III, it was relatively simple; you just had to remove the clip. Also, it didn't have a side airbag.

Now that I've taken a closer look, everything seems different.

Can someone briefly explain the best way to do this? What should I be aware of regarding the airbag cables?

Thank you in advance.

BTW:

Does anyone have the 'So wird's gemacht' manual for the Golf IV TDI 90 PS and can tell me the ISBN?

Thank you.

Hi Kuhni,

For the airbags, you should obtain a suitable dummy plug from VAG.
I believe that to remove the seats, you need to remove the locking mechanisms at the rear end of the rails, and then you can slide the seat backward out of the rails. However, I'll double-check tonight.

Hello, the disassembly is relatively simple. You loosen the two screws at the front and detach the plastic piece at the back from the rails. Then, you release the plastic tab at the front, between the screws, by quickly moving it backward. Next, you disconnect the connectors and can remove the seat. There is an adapter that should be connected to the connectors. However, it can also be done without it, as the two wires on the airbag connector will short circuit when the connector is disconnected. Just make sure there is no key in the ignition. If you want to be absolutely sure, disconnect the clamp from the negative terminal.
Basically, this should only be done by trained professionals, so do not attempt to imitate it. icon_wink.gif
