Hello!
I've had my B4 for about six months. Unfortunately, it pulls slightly to the left, but it's been like that since the beginning. I then replaced all the faulty joints and shock absorbers, installed new tires, and had the alignment adjusted – all to no avail.
Then I noticed that the wheel on the left side was about 20mm further back than the one on the right. This suggests an accident. Otherwise, there's nothing visible on the bodywork or the suspension. Today, I removed and inspected the left control arm, but it doesn't appear to be bent.
Could it be that such a significant delay is not visible to the naked eye?
(Oh yes, the control arm bushings and ball joints are also new.)
I also don't want to just replace a control arm based on suspicion alone.
Does anyone have any ideas? |

if the control arms are okay,
Maybe it shifted the aggregate carrier? Take a look at the aggregate carrier, but especially at its rubber mounts. Even those will eventually break.
Otherwise, it's quite strange, especially since the evidence should match.
Just a thought, have you checked the strut mounts? MfG faz

Thank you for the response!!
But I've even taken the generator housing apart and measured it before. Is everything alright?
And the shock absorber mounts are also new.
I can't imagine that the bracket to which the generator support is attached has shifted. There should be a visible displacement of 20 mm there.
Is it possible for a control arm to be bent without it being visually apparent? |

Hi,
Where do you get the 20 mm offset from?
Just find a fixed point on the underside of the vehicle and measure the distance from that point to all the attachment points of rubber bushings, etc.
That should most likely provide some insight into where a potential misalignment might be coming from.
Have you already checked the usual causes (tie rod ends, steering knuckle ball joints, wheel bearings, brakes, tires)?
Just swap the front tires, the right one with the left one. It might sound silly, but this fixed the left-hand pull on one of our older Passats (32B), where no one else could figure out the cause (even after checking the alignment, joints, rubber bushings, etc.).
Does the phenomenon occur only when braking, or also when driving?

Essentially, a poorly executed accident repair could be the cause: the front longitudinal members and sheet metal parts were replaced, but the distortion in the rear area was ignored because it can only be corrected with heavy machinery or tricks. I'm not entirely clear how they managed to achieve suitable clearances with a 20 mm dimension, or perhaps there should be some information available that explains it. Gruß Christian
