Hello everyone,
Here's the translation:
'I have a question for you. I have a Passat Variant TDI from 09/97, with 90 horsepower. The timing belt needs to be replaced. What should this procedure cost? VW wants around 400 euros for it, while my local mechanic quoted 180 euros. That's quite a difference. Where would you take the car? What experiences do you have?'
I would be grateful for any tips.
Best regards, Franz.

Hi,
to a place where a) all roles/power dynamics are reversed, and b) there is more trust.
The Conti timing belt kit CT946-K2 (example) alone costs more than 180 euros.
I would recommend replacing the water pump at the same time if it's driven by the timing belt, especially if your car has more than 120,000 km.
Best regards, Rainer.
