Emergency mode after disconnecting EGR valve on a 2.0 DTI Opel

Hello everyone.

I disconnected the AGR valve from a friend's car, and now the engine goes into limp mode after 5 seconds of idling, and an error message appears on the dashboard.
The engine is a 2.0 DTI from Opel. I disconnected and sealed the vacuum hose. The problem disappears under load. The error occurs when starting because there is no power.

What's the reason for that? I did the same thing with my Golf. Does the Opel ECU check the AGR valve?

What is the manufacturing year of the Opel? It's possible that the issue lies with the OBD2 function in the engine control unit (ECU), which monitors the mass airflow sensor (MAF). If the EGR valve is faulty, it might cause the system to measure more air than usual and declare a defect.

The EGR rate is usually regulated. It depends on the control unit as to what happens if it cannot be regulated.
But who says that exhaust gases *must* be sucked in?
