"Now that it's time to replace my front brake pads, I wanted to ask if I need a special Allen key for the job. Yesterday, I replaced the pads and rotors on the rear axle without any problems. But none of my Allen keys fit on the front. What's needed for this? I own an Audi A3, year 1999."
Thank you for your help.

"In the past, I had SW7 brake calipers, which were included in the T40 repair kit. However, the Audi 100 calipers are quite similar."

It used to be SW7 for me, in the T40 repair kit. However, it's for an Audi 100, but the calipers are quite similar. }

If it's a Teves saddle (recognizable by the wire spring on the lever), then...
It's a 7mm socket Allen key.

Hello guys!
Thank you for the answers. I managed to fix it now. It was a 7mm Allen key. I'd like to know why car manufacturers always come up with such great obstacles. Sooner or later, we'll get all the screws off anyway! icon_lol.gif
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"MFG" is an abbreviation for "mit freundlichen Grüßen," which means "with kind regards" or "best regards" in English.

What's so special about a 7mm Allen wrench?
My first Golf Diesel (year 1977) already had a size 7 Allen key needed to hold the shock absorber rod in place. Also, my 1979 Jetta has several size 7 Allen key screws.
Just because the "Superbillig" brand socket set sold at the hardware store doesn't include a 7mm socket doesn't mean that a 7mm socket doesn't exist.

The 7mm Allen key was already used in the original Golf 1100 engine for...
Valve adjustment is necessary - it's a perfectly normal tool!
